Ticking Noise

Ok I did a couple searches but they did not seem to be talking about the same type of ticking as I am experiencing. I am looking into buying this '97 240SX and after I took it for a ride, we were outside of the car, and more closer to the driver's side, about underneath the front passengers came a ticking noise. It was constant and I thought that it could have been the CATs. You could hear it from outside the car and resembled that of a needle tapping an aluminum can. Is this the CAT or something else that is regular, or should I look into it further before purchasing the vehicle, thanks.

ticking tends to be exhaust leak. we talk about this a lot, so there are many other opinions. i typed in ticking in the search and this came up. 30 results.

Yea I read all of those posts before so I guess I was just in denial, but an exhaust leak is ONLY an exhaust leak right? It can be repaired w/o any damage to the car?:help
