Mine does that too. It pretty much always has. My mechanic said most likely noisy lifters. Mine is in the process of having some of the engine rebuilt and the transmission replaced so I will let you know what was done and if it is resolved when I get my Pathfinder back. I have a 2004 LE with the 3.5.

Valve train noise, normal on this engine. Mine is louder when the weather is cold. I always get a loud clicking when I first start it up. It takes a few seconds for the oil to reach and lubricate the upper end. I have to wonder whether it's not loss of efficiency in our aging oil pumps.

Well I don't know if this is gonna help you out.

Here is the ticking my pathfinder was making.

It wasn't an easy job but I did an extensive tear down to find the culprit. It turned out that ALL of my exhaust valve clearances were out of spec. I needed to replace 7 lifter buckets to get them back in spec. To do this a lot of stuff including exhaust cams had to come off. Since another culprit could have been the timing chain i decided to swap that while I tore it down. Several of the chain guides were very worn. enough where it was clear that the chain was at least potentially rattling around between the plastic guides.

4 weekends later. I got it all buttoned up and it runs like a freakin champ now. Zero ticks.

Now If I could just figure out why the damn rear main seal is leaking after replacing it and all the oil pan gaskets... I'd have what runs/drives like a brand new truck.

Well, I finally got mine back and the verdict was the PCV valve. The mechanic replaced most of the PCV system and my ticking is totally gone. He also replaced my alternator, but I really doubt that was it. Have you had any luck with it yet?

Also, Starbai,
My mechanic replaced my RMS when he did the transmission and it was leaking afterwards as well. I took it back and he fixed it somehow for free under warranty of his work. I suppose if it doesn't seat just right, then the oil pressure could get high enough to push some oil past it. Is it a small leak like a few drips or a large leak? Does it happen all the time or just after it's been running. Mine was small and only after it had been running and he fixed it with whatever he did.
