Hi guys,

I did a search and didn't see anything about it.

I'm looking at a 06 M45 and noticed there's noticeable tick at warm up then later when revving. There's none during warmed up idle.

Is this normal? I know about the oil consumption and oil levels appeared to be fine.

I don't want to pick up something that ends up being a money pit.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Where does the ticking seem to come from? Have you been able to narrow down which part of the engine bay? Front (belt area) or somewhere in the block?

Hi, I didn't spend too much time looking but it appeared towards the front of the bay. I didn't have any tools with me or I would have brought my harbor freight stethoscope deal to listen for it.

How many miles on the car? If it's the front, it might be belts.

136k. Hmmm. If it's belts I don't mind fixing that.

Never thought a worn belt causes ticks. I was expecting squeaks or squeals

Yes...they can tick too!
You can quickly isolate noisy belts by applying silicone spray onto onto them.
