Just recently changed the Timing chain and the tensioner on my sr20det s14. the cam never made this noise before i changed the timing chain. I though it was a defected timing chain and tensioner so i changed it again with a new one but it didn't make a difference, same result. I'm getting good oil pressure nothing below standard. and i have checked the lifters and have changed them still the same problem.

after the car warms up the noise goes away same result when i have the rev at about 1500 rpm no noise. i thought about taking the cam apart to see whats going on inside but wanted to see is someone else has had the same problem with the intake "vtec" cam on a sr20det S14/S15 before i did anything else

Looks like the dreaded VCT sproket knocking noise is starting up with your S14 sr I have the same dam problem and I have researched this problem for month's and month's so I am pretty well versed on this VCT rattle.

What usually happens is it starts out as a small ticking or small rattle that happens at start up and goes away after warming up to engine working temps....the rattle or ticking noise will intensfiy and get to a very annoying state(which mine is at right now ).

To make long story short you are going to have to replace your VCT intake cam sprocket in the near future.....before the only place that I knew that sells them were RHDjapan for $630 dollars

After looking on to phase2motortrend they sell it for half that $285 So look into it and good luck
