I have a 97 kningcab XE with ka 24e engine. Im about to go on a huge roadtrip and noticed that when I start up the engine the is a TICK TICK TIck noise when the engine is idling. I thought maybe it had something to do with the valve clearance but on this engine there is no way to adjust it as they have hydraliic valve lifters. Anyone have any ideas what would cause this noise and if it is a serious problem. The nose is quite noticeable

i have had a similar problem before, if it is more of a rattle/grinding noise then the timing chain guides are broke. If it is a ticking sound while it idleing then take off your valve cover and tap on the lifters or rocker arms, what ever you call them (while the car is off), and if they make a ticking noise, thats your problem.
