ok, i replaced the timing chain on my ka24e at 113k miles. somehow it had jumped a tooth with the previous owner. i checked the head and there was no damage to the valves, which is good. after its all reassembled i have a verry lound tapping sound from the valve cover. it sounds like lifters. the other thing that makes me think that is when i take off the oil filler cap the idle will drop real low and sometimes even die. you can hear a lot of air being pushed out the opening. im not sure if i should suspect a faulty rocker thats sticking or if i may have put the timing chain back together with 1 tooth still off. any ideas?

the first thing is prob lifters. pull valve cover and try to move the rocker arms. they should not have play. the engine stalling with the oil cap removed is likely due to too much blowby. have you been driving the car since the repair? how much running has it done since then?

Make sure you're not low on oil. Not getting enough oil to the head makes the ka24e's hydraulically adjusted valve lifters tap like crazy.

well if you were off a tooth you would be complaining of low power. without hearing the noise i can only say that you should pull the valve cover and look. i have seen rocker shaft bolts pull the threads out before.
