when my car is idling, less than ~800 rpm, i hear this annoying tick. i have an auto, when i put it in park, the idle goes up a little and sound goes away. but when the idle falls below ~800 i hear it again. i had the top tesioner removed already. does it just make this sound when the engine is under a lot of strain?

the car has 100k on it, oil is full and clean. what could it be?

How is your oil pressure? Running out of oil will cause the lifters to tick due to lack of pressure.

its a stock 95.

i havent checked oil pressure. if you take take the cap off oil will spray out, and there are no lights coming on, so i assume its fine.

i will have to put a gauge on it sometime.

my 91 does the same thing.not a loud tick but its there. i have the tensioners removed and oil is good. could it be the timing chain just sounds that way?

is there more than 1 tensioner that can be taken out? i thought the top one was the problematic one, so i have removed it.

i had a tick once. turned out to be a loose spark plug, held in by only 2 threads and it was bouncing up each time the cylinder fired.

good luck
