Yea, you could fight that in court and win.

unfortunatly... nyc pvb code...its dumb and sucks...but...

Plastic License Plate CoversPlate Covers Code 74 is a violation of "Missing or improperly displayed plate." Pursuant to Section 402 of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law "...Plates shall be kept clean and in a condition so as to be easily readable and shall not be covered by glass or any plastic material, and the view thereof shall not be obstructed by any part of the vehicle or by anything carried thereon."

remove it..photo it..or see if you can get it dropped....

In most states it is illegal to have them! Just because they sell it doesn't make it legal... kind of like red or blue neons. In all states it's illegal to have them on while the car is moving.

Same deal with tint...it's not illegal to buy it and install it, but it is illegal to drive with it. Sometimes North America amazes me by its stupidity...but then, every village has its idiot and ours lies within the judicial system.

A State Trooper Pulled me Over once for that ****. I had a Slightly Tinted License Plate Cover, then he told me my Exhaust was Too Loud. He then preceded to tell me "Take your Ricer *** Home". Hahaha'. Jeez.

Are you serious??

It is good that you posted this here - maybe it will save someone else from getting a ticket. Alot of times folks on the forum encourage things that can get you "popped" like limo tint, no front plate in states that require them, too bright fog lights, etc.

What would the defense be?

Usually parts like this - have a warning disclaimer on the package- that says - not for use on public roads - or for show cars only - or something like that. Remember ignorance of the law - is usually not a good defense for breaking it.

It's illegal here in NJ too. I got popped at a random vehicle check. Tickets for front/rear plate covers and headlight covers. I got the tickets dropped in court but still had to pay court costs. I'm glad back then I took the covers off the lights though. Couldn't see anything at night anyway. I ended up only driving in the daytime with them. That was like 5 years ago when I had my Ranger. I've heard that even the dealer frames are illegal. EZpass technically covers the letters/numbers too but I drilled my license plate higher up so nothing would be blocking. Some statutes, like tint, are so ****ing stupid. If it's illegal in one state, it should be illegal in all and vice versa.
