About 2 weeks ago i hit a pretty bad pothole. Since then Ive heard this constant thumpin coming from the front at high and real low speeds. Took car to get checked out to see if rims were bent or if there was damage to tires. Everything checked out ok however noise continues. Not sure if they missed flat spot on tire possibly or if its something worse. Should I get new front tires or have someone check bearings/axel?? Any help appreciated

I don't know if I would have called it thumping. But on two different occasions I have had issues after pot holes. On one with a front wheek drive car I hit a pot hole and ended up with a bad bearing. Jacking the car up and manually spinning the tire did not reveal it. It had to be loaded. The car drove fine, just sounded terrible.

On the other event and maybe this is yours, a tire had internal separation that was only evident with the tire unmounted from the rim. You could see the problem on the inside of the tire.

Do you happen to have Goodyear tires?

I asked because with on particular type of Goodyear mounted on some cars a problem with a shift in belts will end up acting somewhat like an alignment problem. You will not see anything on the outside or inside of the tire and your alignment will check out normal.

If you do not have staggered tires (all tires same size and same offset rim) swap the backs to the front and see if the problem disappears. If so you may have induced in your Dunlops what just occurs in these particular Goodyears.

You could swap one at a time in the reverse direction to see if the problem reoccurs and figure out which one if this is the case.

is the noise a rotating sound? like the tire gets to a certain spot and makes the noise.i hit a pothole in my maxima a while back, bent/cracked my wheel, tore the sidewall of the tire and blew the strut. If its a rotating noise you could have torn the steel belts inside the tire which would create your thumping noise.

Have a service tech take a ride with you...it will be easier for them to diagnose if they hear the problem.
