thumping noise when bass boost is turned up

basically i got a problem with my amp or my cd player. but when i turn my bass boost all the way up it hits constantly if i turn it down it stops? what could it be? any suggestions would help.

Pioneer deh 7600, amp is a cheapo i think its a pyle 1000w. and its an mtx thunder 5500. i can make it thump with the volume all the way down.

It sounds like your amplifier is being overdriven. This means sending too much voltage at a given frequency in excess of its internal power supply (bass eq ups the voltage for a specific range of frequencies) and is clipping.

Bass boost is dangerous. If it is used when the gains are improperly set (sounds like your gain is WAY high if you can make it thump at low volume), or if used in excess, it can damage almost everything.

BUT, it could be that your ground wire does not have the best connection to your car's body. I would check that first then I would lower the gain on your amp and then see where that gets you. Those should eliminate, or at least reduce your problem.

yeah i checked the grounds about fifty times they are all good. the amp worked fine until i dropped it about 3 inches in the trunk one day. oh well it still hits hard enough i guess for now i'll get a real amp next time.
