I have an 06 Murano with about 65K miles.

Recently I have noticed a thumping noise from the front end at around 50mph. The thumping noise does not seem to speed up and slow down with the speed of the car it seems to remain steady.

The tires were replaced two years ago and the are about 50% worn. The wear is even and the air pressure checked on a regular basis. Tires have been rotated every 6 months and show even wear.

Anyone else have the same problem I would like to hear the cure.

Thanks
Rodney

At only 65K miles the second set of tires are already 1/2 worn out? That sounds to me like excessively high tire wear for a Murano.

Did you buy this car new, and what was the mileage when the first set of tires was replaced? And if you are sure the thumping is coming from the front, rotating the tires from front to rear should tell you if the noise is tire related.

Yes I rotated the tires and the thumping remained. I replaced the original tires early they were not worn out but when I go on a cross country trip I like to have plenty of tire.

I purchased the car used with 9K miles.

The tires I have on her now are low profile soft tires and they are wearing faster than the original tires.

Take out of gear and glide, see if it goes away.

you may want to check the air dam and the other plastic cowlings under the car, They may be loose and flaping. Also check fender liner etc.

Doubt is it a motor mount as they will typically make noise when you initialy accelerate from a stop but you may want to ck them just the same. Motor mounts can be checked by Holding brake putting in Drive, Press accelerator with brake held , hood open. see if engine rises then let off brake and see if it thumps down. Do same in Reverse gear.

Thanks for the ideas. This weekend I plan on looking at everything to see if I can find that little gremlin....

Take it over speed bumps one wheel at a time. Ball joints and tie rod ends or strut may show issue. However if you hearing noises on smooth road then you can likely rule them out anyhow.

I can tell you that without much exception that in nearly every case where I was trying to chase a problem with car, boat etc. I have found other non related problems and or found that there were multiple items contributing to the issue I was trying to diagnose. Therefore I can adivse you to look at everthing, basically give the car a check up . One of those things where "while you are in there" may as well do x-y-and z.

Solved this by changing out the tires.
