I was driving today and I turned left and heard a thumping noise so I got home and checked my tension rods and they were fine. so I drive it again and no noise until I pull up in my driveway. Then it made the same noise but I was in park, so I think it's the flywheel, but then I checked the flywheel and it's ok. So my question is WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!I even checked the driveshaft because that's what it sounds like and sounds like it's coming from but it's not. so any help would be cool.

Be more specific. Where is is the noise coming from exactly? The transmission?Lift your car up and take a look at your tie rods, the steering rack, etc. Too many things can cause a thump. Try to make it happen so you can isolate it--take it out in a parking lot and drive in tight circles or go slow over speedbumps. And you went thru the trouble of dropping your transmission to check the flywheel? seems like a hassle, i'd look at the easy/more obvious stuff first

I have already done all that. It sounds like its coming from the driveshaft but its not.The thing that trips me out is that it does it when I'm in park or neutral also.

It's when you put it in park or neutral? Is it 'slamming' itself into gear so to speak?I am not familiar w/ auto trannies so i can't help ya then.

It has nothing to do with the trany, I was just saying it does it when i'm driving (not all the time) and in park. It sounds just like a tension rod bushing going out but its coming from around the rear of the motor. maybe the motor mounts?

so the sound is coming more from the center to rear of the car? it could be the carrier bearing on the driveshaft too.

lol oops didn't read that. you on an incline or anything when it's setup in park and makes the noise? got a better ball park idea of where the car is making the sound?

^ Those also wouldn't do it in park.

So, how did you go about checking your flywheel?

I checked it by turning the crank a little at a time while checking and tightening the bolts that connect the torque converter to the flywheel.

its feels like its coming from around were the transmission connect to the motor but i cant be sure. could the transmission mounts or transmission vibration mount cause this?

Just to get this right you were sitting in your car in park not moving at all, and suddenly it goes thump? I also thought it could be subframe bushings but if your not moving at all and not changing it to drive then i don't know wut it could be.

yeah if the car is stationary and it makes a "thump" that's a strange one... only thing I can think of that's really spinning around is your torque converter or your flexplate, but I can't really think of anything that'd make them go "thump" unless one of their bolts is loose. You can inspect that from the underside of the engine/transmission meet up area, move over the little panel and take a gander down below

could the transmission mounts or stabilizer be the cause?

i mean it could, but you said the car is pretty much sitting there in park right? if it's in park or neutral, the crank, flexplate, torque converter and some stuff on the inside of the transmission are spinning, but not much else.

The thump, does it sound like someone dropping a bag of rice or something or marbles or possibly a spring popping?

it sounds like the torque converter slightly hitting the bell housing. the transmission noise dampener is broke, could that be it.
