i have an s14. whenever i apply the brakes while rolling over a bumpy area, ther is a thump from the rear. kinda sounds like subframe play. any clues or confirmation to my theory? also when i take long turns (ie on/off ramps) sounds like my brakes are rubbing?

your subframe is the likely candidate. That's if you haven't touched the other suspension pieces (i.e. coilovers, adjustable/pillowball arms/rods).

As for the brakes, iono, you just have to take them out and check them for seizing/not full compression etc... probably due for a brake check & brake bleed anyway .
