Alright, I got my new clutch in and everything. Got a flywheel from an 89 240 (since I can't afford a new one, and I cracked my old one) I put it together, and now at certain times it makes a really weird noise.

When I am driving and hit the clutch to shift from one gear to the next, I hear a rattling type noise that goes along with the rpm drop. When I start the car, I can hear a little rattling if the clutch isn't depressed. If I press on the clutch, it goes away. Revving up, you can hear it rattling. I have been told (and believe) it is the throwout bearing (I changed my clutch about a month and a half ago, and it was a bad clutch....disentegrated completely.) I had a new kit, but wasn't paying attention to everything. Since I had just changed my throwout bearing, I didn't change it this time. So, some of the clutch dust got into the bearing, and is messing it up.

My question is does anyone have any experience with this, or have any clue if it could be something else?

If you press the clutch and the sound goes away, the problem is inside the transmission.

You suppost to change the throw out bearing everytime you replace the clutch. Plus its just a good idea and they are quite cheap. I don't know if thats the problem. You might also want to check your exhuast. I thought my transmission was going bad, b/c I heard a wierd rattling noise, but it was just my exhaust coming loose.

did u put the flywheel and clutch your self or did a shop do it because u need to make sure that the spacer for the flywheel went on becuse if not u may have tightened ur flywheel too much and u may have started to snap ur flywheel bolts but if a shop did it they most likely remembered to put the spacer on i forgot it once and now i got an extra KA in the garage due to it needing a new crank

Well, the car decided yesterday that it didn't want to go into gear anymore. So, I pulled it to a shop. Will update at what is wrong with it when I find out.

BTW: Other than a flywheel shim, I have never heard of a spacer or anything like that, not even from the transmission shops. Shim is only needed for machining the flywheel (which transmission shops also said its best not to do on a hydraulic clutch, since you can't adjust it any more than the slave cylinder can extend.)

I get a weird howling noise in my S14 SR transmission when its cold (and only sometimes at that). It’s been doing it for over a year and 15k miles now.

I kinda like it because along with my exhaust it scares the neighbors in the morning. Other than that noise, there are no other problems. I did have a syncro problem between 3rd and 4th but it seem to fix itself when I put redline in.

Only thing I can think of other than a throwout bearing being bad is maybe I didn't bleed it enough. That is what someone told me, (and is a good possibility, I only bled it three or four times....When you are working with idiots who can't do much, you try to get it done a.s.a.p.) So, hopefully thats the problem as to why it won't go in gear.
