Ok my 240 has been sitting in my garage and now its been parked in town for sale and ive had people test driving it. Well its been making a kinda grinding/swooshing sound when i let off the clutch. Im pretty sure its the throw out bearing. But what is the best way to replace it?? Its probably gonna be sold here in the next week so i need to replace it quick.thanks and let me know!

I know you said you are pretty sure its a bad throwout bearing but just incase you were still not 100% sure ..yes this is a bad throwout bearing..these are the noises they make when going bad..grinding and sort of a running water sound.....best way to replace it is go to the auto part store buy a new TO bearing and replace it yourself or go to the mechanics shop and pay for them to do it

Yea but if i take it to a garage labor is gonna cost me out the ***...i called o'reilys today and they have them for 17.99 or one for 24.99 I probably should go for the higher priced one so it will last longer. And i dont really feel like taking the transmission out for the third time. But has anyone done this before? Whats the easiest way to do it? Just drop the transmission i suppose and work form there. Man this blows!!! thanks

u might as well change the whole clutch kit, get one w/ lifetime warranty & save receipt...

boost the selling price to include a freshly installed clutch kit.; don't make the next owner have to pull this apart again after just buying it :P

well there is part of your original post that is of concern. you said that it makes a sound when you let OFF of the clutch. a throwout bearing makes a sound when you PUSH the clutch. If your car is making a swishing sound when you have the trans out of gear and you let out on the clutch then it is NOT the throwout bearing it is the bearings on the trans main and counter shafts. If it makes a noise when you push the clutch then it is truely the throwout bearing. the 5 speed trannies in these cars are notorious for the bearings making a growl after you get some miles on them
