turn key to on position ,car not running, measure voltage off the center wire should be at .5 volts[Approx.] slowly rotate the throttle till it maxs out. voltage should gradually increase to above 4 volts. then slowly release it while watching the meter should drop back down to .5V There should be no glitches during the sweep from idle to max. It should just gradually rise. same for the down sweep. The engine has to be at operating temp when this test is performed. just not running.

The TPS voltage is divided into 9-10 steps by ecu 0.44 [less than 0.50, 0.51-0.99, 1,00-1.49; 1.50-1.99................anything 4.0 or higher 4.44 is considered WOT...........idle [throttle closed ;10%;20%;30%.................>90-100% [WOT]

Some ecu divide the voltage into finer resolution steps.

Things to look out for are a worn spot [at what would be 55-70 mph] which corresponds to a noisey volume control.......these varing voltages can drive the ecu crazy........not very common.

Some TPS have auxillary closed and WOT switches as backups.
