Throttle position sensor problems

I recently got my first 90 240sx, and it has the 12 valve dohc engine, but the girl i got it from let someone butcher the engine.i have everything back together, but cant get the car to crank and run. the throttle position sensor had been removed and i am trying to get it set correctly. does anyone know how to test the sensor and set it properly. i tried one repair manual but no luck.thanks in advance
