So I took my 240 for a spin tonight and I was headed to redline when all of a sudden the throttle just cut out at about 5k rpms. So I took my foot off the gas and put it into 4th gear, but still didn't get any response for a few seconds. This happened twice. WTF is wrong?! Man I am really starting to regret this buy... :(

I was just thinking, and realized that my speedometer hasn't been working properly(sometimes on, sometimes off, sometimes i jumps around) and maybe it was jumping around and hit 112 mph, which is the cutoff point right...? I wasn't paying attention to it...

while in 4th and 5th gears your car has an RPM limit of 5000rpm via the ECU. to remedy this you must disconnect the 4th and 5th gear sensors on your transmission. from the front they are the 2nd and 3rd set of wires going into a sensor, 1st one is reverse lamp switch. 4th higher one is the neutral position switch. they are on the right side of the transmission (passenger side).

if you bypass those there will still be a limiter around 115-120mph, which is controlled by the ECU by reading the speed sensor signal (only way to bypass this is to cut speedo wire) but then you cant tell how fast your going.

true fix for this is a reprogrammed ECU without the limiters.

regretting this buy because it doesnt do the 200mph that you want it too? it is a 150hp SOHC commuter car...(in stock form anyways)... dont expect porsche performance.

I was in third gear when it cut out. I don't care if I can't go 100mph, I care that my throttle cuts out at 5k rpms in third gear. And the regret part is because this isn't the only problem with the car, there are all sorts of other things that need fixing. Only time and some work will tell if I made the right choice or not. Guess we'll see. Still need an answer to this problem though...

It happened again today, and it only happens in 3rd gear. Might this be my clutch? Cept my revs went way down when it cut out so it couldn't be that. Anyone have any suggestions...???

the rev limiter is only at 5000 in 5th gear the rest should go between 6200 - 6700, the only answer I have is not a good one, it is either a bad sensor or ecu.

these cars are pos's in reality. But dont say that on this board, you will get flamed like nothing else. People just dont like admitting that kind of thing.
