Hello everyone one!! I cleaned my throttle body today and now it seems to take a couple of tries for it to start. As soon as i took the intake tubing off and started it, it ran very rough and the service engine light came on. I cleaned it up put it back together and reset the light. Now it seems like it has trouble starting. When it starts it runs fine. Could I have done something wrong. I have been having the trouble with the fuel pressure regulator but it wasn't happening this much until i cleaned the throttle body, maybe related, i'm not sure. Also can I be doing damage to the fuel system by putting off getting the regulator replaced. Im out of warranty so I gotta wait till I got the money. Any advice would be great, Thank You!!

What did you use to clean it? Also you shouldn't have to clean your throttle body unless you live in the middle of a dusty desert and you're using some really bad air filter like a K&N.

If you used Carb cleaner there is a very good chance you've totally screwed your throttle body. Carb cleaner is very corrosive and will seep through the shaft on the throttle body and destroy your throttle control module and throttle position sensor. Thats not a cheap replacement as you'll need to either find a good working junkyard throttle body or buy a new one from the dealership. Either way once you put the new on on you'll have to take it to the dealership to have them run an idle learn routine on it.

I did not use Carb cleaner on it, it was throttle body cleaner. I got 121000 kms on my car and looking at the engine, its VERY dirty and dusty , so thats why I did it. As for the idle bouncing up and down I had someone sit in the car and rev the engine just enough for the throttle to open. As for the starting problem it seems to depend on how long the car was sitting and what the temp is outside. I just hope im not doing more damage by putting it off.

carb or throttle body cleaner, it has about the same effects. You are not suppose to clean those with any type of spray. we dont run any type of cleaner thru them here at the dealership for the same reason of damaging it.
