SES light came on the other day. Put a reader on it and this is what I found

P0325: Knock Sensor 1 Circut Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0440: Evaportive Emission Control System Malfunction

Can any one shed some light on what these mean? Not sure if I need to fix anything.

P0325: Either there is an open or short in the harness or the knock sensor has failed

P0440: You have a small leak in your evap system. First try checking your gas cap to ensure it is tight.

I recommend following the troubleshooting steps in the service manual to help solve these issues.

Here's a link to the manual you need to troubleshoot the codes: http://www.boredmder.com/FSM/N...C.pdf

Start on page 260 for P0325 and page 292 for P0440.

Good luck!

Also, that's odd that they would both register at once. Did you do any work on the car or unplug any harnesses before the MIL came on? Usually this will be triggered by unplugging a harness and turning the ignition to the ON position (without starting the vehicle) or actually starting the vehicle.

When you read them did you have them cleared? If they were cleared did they return? If you haven't cleared them yet, then I suggest clearing them, and seeing if they return.

Truck was running and in gear and had been running for about 15 min. The SES came on and the next day I pulled the codes. The 0325 and 0440 were the 2 faults there was another 0325 pending. When I bought the truck there was a leak where the filler neck meets the gas tank. Had it fixed I thought but the other day could smell gas after a fill. Maybe it falls under the recall on the filler neck? So the 0440 I know about. Could this cuase the 0325?

The first code i've had experience with. It was due to low oil on mine, which I know sounds kinda odd but when I dropped it off at the dealer to get it checked out they said it was 1 1/2 qts low on oil. They told me not to run synthetic oil in it anymore and it's been almost 6 months now, no more code, no more oil consumption. Not sure if yours has the same problem but thought i'd throw it out there

Not sure if the filler neck recall covers the pathfinders too, I got my qx4's replaced about a month ago and it was covered.

I've had those 2 codes at one point too.

The knock sensor I just reset, I think it was intemediate as I haven't seen the code for about 5 months now.

The Evap code I was getting like every week (when I fill up) and it may have been related to the filler neck problem as I guess I had not noticed the smell of gas until about 2 weeks leading up to the recall service completed. Since the recall was completed I've been code free.

Hope you can resolve your trucks issues.

the knock sensor is a common problem in nissan and infiniti - its a pain in the a** to get to and change out (have to remove intake manifold) so just leave it as your qx4 will drive just fine

ive had the 0440 code too, reset it and it never came back...

thanks guys. I cleared them 3 days ago and nothing has popped up again. I'm going to see if the recall covers my 98 QX4. Sure hope so.
