Thoughts on 1981 Datsun 200SX 5spd Hatch

I found one that has 78k on it. It has some minor rust on the rear hatch. The rest of it looks to be good. The guys wants $1200 and has 'MUST SELL' on the ad. Is $1200 a fair price for a 200sx with some minor rust?

If it passes state inspection, yes.

Also, is there a front hatch?

that's an S110 chassis car, Dave has an S12.

there's some significant differences, mostly the drivetrain.

I talked to the seller some more. Turns out it's his bro-in-laws car who recently moved to Italy. Then came the story of how the title went to Italy with him and it won't be back until the spring. So no S110 for me this time around.

AFAIK, S110s have a similar suspension to the SRA S12's, but I'm not really sure. I have no idea about the drivetrain, but it would make sense. It is pretty cool tho considering this was the first chassis to receive the FJ engine and be named the 240RS.

I would think that $1200 is a little high for that car. The guys at Club-S12 have been talking about it for a while...

There's only one with any kind of buzz about it there, so I think so... :

The last one got bought so fast it made the internet skip a day. I don't see why it should make such a big deal tho, it's not like they are fast (at all, lol) or handle any more special then cars from it's time. I can say that OEM-surplus does have a bunch of parts for them tho.

That's good. It's a CL find and thus comes with the usual CL BS. The guy was nice enough on the phone and I might take the time to check it out earlier next week but without a ready to sign title I am just browsing at this time. It's a Datsun in my price range but lucky for me I am in no hurry to spend my money so I can take my time.

At this point I am only about 1/8 actually interested in it. I really would love to score a 610 or 710 but then I would love just own a Datsun again, it would have a good home here. I am not one to rip cars to shreds to make it different, being a Datsun is different enough for me. As for weight, not too concerned about that I guess, it would be a Sunday afternoon ice cream getter kind of ride.

i think its a bit much, there isnt many left when something breaks.... just hold out for what you really want

IIRC, they are supposed to be kinda heavy compared to S12s and S13s...

eh...they probably weigh in on par with the S13.

it's the engine that makes like 105 hp at the crank that does it...

the Z series was typically reliable..but just underpowered.

I *think* the S110 cars here got the Z22.

I'd rather have the 610 or 710 for the L20 in them.
