Haha well first off I posted this in the Altima audio section and no one knew what I was talking and was told post it here lol.

So I got bored today and decided to test the Nightshades limits.. it was taking every note solid @ 1500watts without even breaking a sweat... So I droped it down to .5, lowered the gains a lil bit... testing it at typical music levels seemed to do pretty good.. a lil stress but nothing serious... put on Burning Up Chopped in Screwed... pretty much flexed the piss out of the car for 15 seconds and it started smelling bad... turned it down real quick. Put it back to 2ohms... played fine for a little and then gave out, took it out, tested the ohms.. she was dead. Ripped her apart to find this!

For the curious people that can't tell... the coil came out of the gap... 3000+ watts at 26hz will do that haha!

I already talked to Jacob (Owner of the company) and he is making me a custom re-cone New re-cone will include a longer coil, extra spider and a secret option I'm not permitted to say

Also here is a preview of the new box I will be putting together for it.. a 6th order bandpass

Sweet, I love the smell of burnt coils in the morning! So with the 6th order bandpass, what kind of tuning frequency are you building to? Got a frequency response chart for that bad boy?

Front Chamber is tuned at 73hz hz and rear is tuned at 30hz.. no chart.

They're doing something top secret on a recone? I can't think of what that might be. Does it have to do with soft parts?

Hmmm.Bandpass = can't hear mechanical distortion1/2 ohm = no damping factor?Profit

Actually re-cone is going to a be Dual 2 so I can wire it at 1ohm. But trust me, I know how to set my gains I have never thermally blown a speaker, and I plan on keeping it that way.

You never said anything about what top-secret stuff they're doing? IMO, if it's not patent worthy, it's not too secretive. The modifications they're doing could be a bit unorthodox, but not unheard of. However, if they are patent pending, then it all gets a bit more juicy and now I'm really intrigued!

Damping has nothing to do with setting gains. It's a ratio of the source impedence to object impedence. IOT, the resistance of the amps output in relation to the resistance of the subwoofer(s). Dropping your object impedence (for example 4ohms to 2 ohms) reduces your damping factor. Though anything over 50 is fine.

Lol it's not patent pending. It's just a nice lil option that might be considered on newer models of these subs that increases the power handling.

Ok, time for 20 questions.

Does it have to do with mechanical power handling or thermal power handling?

Thermal.

Does it have to do with the voice coil itself?

It doesn't have anything to do with the coil it's self.

Did they change the material the former is made of?
