How is the fitment of the exhaust? Does it hang low anywhere in the center pipe section?

Im running crappy XSpower exhaust the its scraping everywhere I go because the resonator hangs way too low, Im looking into either HKS or Blitz exhaust as replacement.

Thanks!

hey bro, ive got a Hi Power exhaust on my s13 and it doesnt sit or hang low from the center, I have a 2 inch drop up front and 1.75 in the rear and dont scrape on anything and i dont exactly have the best roads where i live, its such a perfect fit and sounds Soooooo nice. I personally think its the best exhaust out there. A couple of buddies of mine run and blitz on theres and they too admit that the HKS is better. Not to loud either but not quite. Either way id go with HKS very very good exhaust.

i had a hi power and in my opinion its too big unless you have upgraded turbo and all u care about is hi-end, but personally i like some sort of low end. i'm having a apex n1 put on the car that is being built now. I think anything over 3 inch on a 4 cyl turbo is rediculous and pointless unless, like i said before, your running a huge turbo. When i had a civic (got it to shut my mom and friends up about getting a reliable car) i had the apex`i n1 on there and I can say that the quality was excellent and it actually made the civic sound pretty nice along with aem CAI. I can't comment about the n1 on a 240 yet, but in 3-4 weeks i'll be able to.

S14 with hi power. it is about over 3 inchs about 3.4, its huge. Normally the downpipe and test pipe whatever you get aren't even that big. baout 80mm. So with such a bigh outlet, you still have smaller diameter piping with your turbo outlet, downpipe and test pipe.

The exhaust does hang low if your car is dropped. only inches away from the ground, it gets banged up all the time. It is two piece with a square connecting flanged between the two, and this piece gets scraped the most bc it hangs the lowest on the exhaust.

This exhaust is pretty loud but not overbearing. Sounds great on the hi end though, but normal cruisng speeds the reverberations can be hear inside the car pretty loud.

Good piece, worth the money if you want an aggressive sounding exhaust.

HKS does make a 2.7" or so Hi-power exhaust. That's what I'm running. It's much quieter than the larger one and there isn't the torque loss of the huge exhausts. I think it's the perfect exhaust because everything appears to be 2.5 or 3 inches nothing really inbetween. I don't scrape on anything and I'm running eibach sportlines(2.2" in front, like 2" in back). You may have to contact HKS to see if it's still available, i don't see anybody selling the smaller one anymore, just the 85mm.

what torque loss is there on a turbo motor? I was always told that with a turbo its better to have at least 3" exhaust to allow all the exhaust gases to get away from the turbo as fast as possible. If you have smaller exhaust piping its gonna cause some backpressure for the turbo to spool slower in turn not create torque as fast. The SR20 gets power from boost not the 2.0L displacement. With my 80mm exhaust i hit 15psi on T25 by 2800rpm creating almost all my torque at that point. If i had smaller dimeter piping the turbo wouldnt hit full boost till 3k+ making torque hit later in rpm.

Don't beleive everything your told. Do the research for yourself. I've compared both the HKS exhausts and unless your running 20+ psi or a t3/t4 the larger one is not necessary. I reach 14psi at 2500 rpm. when I had the larger one I wouldn't get there until 2800 just like you. I have a 3" hks downpipe and 3" testpipe, just the catback is smaller. If I change the o2 housing that will improve spool even more. I don't really know why it works but I know it does.

It aslo depends alot on supporting mods, condition of motor/turbo etc. Hell, even changing an air filter can change the spool of a turbo. So we are really debating a mute point.

I wasn't trying to start an argument, i was just stating MY opinion based on MY experiences.

so by what you say about 80mm exhaust only helping a car with a larger turbo, Would the Sard Torque Resonator thing actually be worth buying for the SR20?

i agree with just merging, i wouldnt get an exhaust that big unless i had a 6 cyl turbo, or was pushing about 500hp on the SR. It just unnecessary. I had the Hi-power on my last swap. on my new one im getting back next week i have the n1, which is 3 in. I probably wont be able to compare the 2 because it's been so long since i drove my last one. But, either way i'll leave a little review of it. In reality though i really wanted 2.75 also but couldnt find an exhaust that size. The n1 is the closest thing. I think it starts that small and gets up to 3 in. by the muffler (megaphone style exhaust?).sean

ps. I once saw a really good write up on exhaust sizes on z31.com(when i had a z31), when i get back from work ill see if i can find it.

That actually looks like a good piece. It should improve off-boost drivability without affecting top end performance.
