For people who have installed a B&M shifter in their car...

Did you have to raise your car and go to the bottom of the car to install yours? I heard something about removing a plate or something from the bottom...

How hard was the installation?

All you do is take out everything from the inside (trim and such) then user a wrench to take off all 6 bolts from the whole plate the shifter is in. Youll know what im talking about when you see it. Pull that off and bolt on the B&M.

The installation is not that hard. But I did have to jack up my s14 slightly to get to that one bolt. You'll know which one it is, it's the biggest pain in the arse in the whole job. Other then that it was pretty straight forward.

Yeah the bolts arnt easy to get to. And with the angle you hit em at it takes the "double wrench trick" to get em off. If you dont know it, just ask someone because i dont think its explainable.

just use a ratcheting 10mm box wrench to get to the two bolts that are under the cabin's sheet metal when tightening for more ease. I used my middle fingers to get the buggers in as deep as I could before taking the wrench to it. Got at it from the top.

the shifter in my buddy's car isn't bad at all. Shifts are shorter than my C's in 3rd, and the noise isn't bad either. It kinda sounds like a cassette player fast forwarding or rewinding.

i noticed the noise at first but now it doesnt catch my attention as much. but i also have exhaust and play the radio. the feel is a lot better than stock and pretty much removes all play when in gears. it was a pain to get to the two front bolts on the shifter plate tho. i just went at it from underneath the car while jacked up with a open ended wrench. took awhile but i finished.

Those front two bolts were a ***** an a half from the top So I got under the car and used an offset dogbone. You may want to buy a new shifter-gasket in advance, I destroyed mine taking out the stock shifter and had to wait for the local Nissan dealer's parts department to open the next day.

I've noticed that on mine, it's less noisy when I put my Nismo nob on it. I think it has to do with the nylon threads on the nob. Also, it makes more noise when my hand is actually on it. Like if I drive with my hand on the shifter it's noiser but if I take my hand off it quiets down. Throws are significantly smoother and shorter. And the actual height of the whole thing is about an inch lower than stock.

i have a b&m in my 89 240 and i have the cassette noise as well and always worried but then realized that it was from it being solid but all in all i love it.. the only problem i have is going into reverse.. it doesn't stay.. and it will pop out of reverse.. and i don't like it and i have tried adjusting the piece that holds it down but that didn't help either.. just curious if anyone else has this problem?
