Those who purchased clips, what did you do to get them off the truck?

I purchased a clip and I'm negotiating with the guy on how the hell I'm going to get it off the truck... I'm having it delivered to my house where I'll be doing the work... and he said I'd probably need a forklift to get it off and stored... All I have is an engine hoist at the moment and looking into renting a fork lift has been a pain. I was just curious what you all did to have it delivered and taken off the truck, like say if you had them send a truck with a fork lift on it, or if that was even required etc...

Please let me know!

Thanks,

It will be rediculously expensive to rent a forklift, your better off just having it shipped to your house on a truck with a lift gate and a pallet jack (assuming the clip is on a pallet).

The reason you cant get a fork lift is because they weigh over 5000lbs, you would have to get it to your place on a flatbed. I know because we had to move one when the family buisness moved locations.

ah, got it...

Well my driveway is rather flat... the only issue is, can they get a pallet down off a truck with a lift back? A lot of the time they're rather short... =( would't allow for a large clip pallet.

Thanks!

I pulled it off the truck with a forklift and then used a 20 ton overhead crane to set it in the ebd of my pickup truck. I had it delivered to an industrial facility :) .

Put the engine hoist in the bed of a pickup truck, and back it up to the flatbed. Lift the clip, drive away, and set the pallet on cinderblocks or something...since you prolly won't be able to get it all the way to the ground. Then take the hoist out of the truck, and use it to set the clip on the ground. That might work...or it might end up in loss of life, serious injury, or serious equipment damage :D . Or, you could just have it delivered on a truck with a lift gate.

thats why i bought a motorset. i put the engine in the front seat of my Geo Prizm(toyota corolla), made my cousin that went with me sit in the back seat with the box of parts and the harness, and i put the transmission in the trunk.

The guys that delivered mine had a pallet jack and a truck with a liftgate. They did all the work.... I stood by the house, smoked a cigarette, and "supervised".

ive got you all beat. venus sent it via truck with a lift gate, but lo and behold when it got to my house the lift gate was too small. so what we did was, since it was quite a low truck (not a semi, closer to a ups truck size) [heres the good part] we tilted the bed (yeah, a nice truck, thank god) so the back of the truck was only 6 inches or so from the ground and tied the clip to my fence, then the guy in the truck floored it and the clip slid right out! it was so awesome, but perhaps not the smartest thing in the world.

haha, i know nothing is broken because of that. it was kinda cool because when i got it installed and everything it started first turn. i think since it was in the clip (with suspension) it did not come close to harm. oh, and i am a dumbass.

Interesting ideas... So with a clip, they should be able to get it off with a pallet jack? I've used pallet jacks before (used to do stock work while in college) and I've moved small heavy pallets around, but never anything as wide as a clip. I'll have to give this some more thought.

Thanks!

a pallet jack will handle the clip just fine. its about a foot less wide without the body panels.

i used a company truck with a liftgate, since the liftgate was kinda small, i also helped it out with a engine hoist. after it was on the ground, i used the engine hoist and wheeled the clip around on it.

Just picked up a JDM Integra B16A clip today for my son's friend. It had been sitting at a freight wharehouse. Took my Grand Am towing mule and trailer. Had to remove the right side rail for the forklift to get it on. Was a little worried at first since my trailer is rated at 1,000 lbs. and the pallet weighed in at 1,547 lbs.

Made it back and it's in the garage at my son's house, trailer and all. Of course they haven't quite figured out how to get it off the trailer yet...DOH!

If anybody want's or knows someone that wants a JDM B16A clip (complete) lemme know. We can deliver if it's not too far.....still have to figure a way to get it off the trailer  Hahaha.....I'm thinking tilt the trailer bed, it tilts to the ground, and drive forward slowly.

Here is a quick and easy idea. I work for a ford dealership and recently our fork lift broke down. so when we had a roadway truck drop an engine pallet off at the dealership we would call the local tow truck and they would lift the motor out of the back of the truck and back the engine into the shop where the techs were working. Each time cost like 30.00 but if you are trying to get the clip off and into a garage this might be worth it. You also might want to build a pallet dolly out of 2x6 bords and casture wheels. This way you can move the pallet around the garage as you need to.

6 big guys, 2 mediums sized guys, barbeque, and beer. I got mine from Venus and I asked for a liftgate. But guess what, it didn't have one. (Turns out they didn't charge me for one either). I'm less and less impressed with them as time goes by...

I bought a motorset from Dee. I had rented a van, put the motor in with a forklift. Put the transmission and parts beside it.

Got the motor out of the van with my engine hoist.

I'm glad that I got a clip for my first swap, but I won't do it that way again.
