BTW, those things were so front heavy that even with 375 horses our Gs would dust them stock 0-60 or in a quarter. But 30-100 they were something else. Heck, the '69 350 RS was one of the fastest feeling cars I ever drove passing someone on a two-lane. Belonged to my buddy's dad, who was an RFD mailman who drove a slant 6 Valiant on his route.

Wow...you don't hear about getting a stolen car back much...especially after 30+ years!

I got my prized '85 RX7-GSL-SE back in '95 after thieves stole it from right in front of my favorite watering hole. They dumped it in a parking lot across town the next day, minus wheels/tires, sitting on the rotors.

They did no significant damage other than steeling the rims, but the towing company the police called in darn near totaled the car. Dented both fenders and one quarter panel with chains, jacked the engine up into the hood, etc.

If you ever have this happen, go on site for the recovery if you can. If I'd been there I'd have been able to keep them from trashing the car.

Aww....great story. Thanks for sharing. :)

Not meaning to knock your G (goodness knows I wouldn't do that here!), but see if your G is worth as much as that car is when it is 40 years old. ;)

I had a car stolen. Felt like I had lost my best friend. They found it the next day (on my birthday) torn all to Hell. Police said it was probably a gang initiation. Gotta love thugs.

^Certainly it won't be worth as much as the SS--there were only about 36,000 1st gen SS Camaros built, of any description. But the SS isn't worth as much as the rarer '69 Z28, which was not as fast.

Good thing they weren't too fast because their brakes sucked!

Just remember, they didn't have near the technology back then that they have now. Dumping more fuel was the only way they knew to make them faster.

Brakes? Oh, you mean that middle pedal you used to stop the car when the clutch gave out?

Yuppers....trying to stop that lead sled that you had jacked up in the rear end with tiny front rotors and rear drums.

60's muscle cars were so fun.

Looking back to your remark about only knowing how to make them faster by using more fuel, Colin Chapman of Lotus was around back then with his principle of adding lightness: ""Adding power makes you faster on the straights, while subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere." A concept, of course, that was unknown in Detroit.

Maybe that is why Detroit is now a ghost town. :tisk:
