Ok, so my cat was in a fight and needed to go to the vet (but you should'da seen the other guy). On the way back she peed on my passenger seat. Any suggestions about how to get rid of the smell??? I used my carpet cleaner and soaked it with Febreeze but it still smells like cat pee. I have the SL so it has the memory foam. If anyone has been successful at removing cat pee smell from a car please let me know.

This happened to my favorite easy chair. Here's what I did; First, steam clean and vacuum the upholstery several times. This will kill any bacteria that is left over. Second; buy a bottle of Febreeze (for pet odors), remove and throw away the spray head, and dump the entire bottle into the seat, being sure to let it soak in before pouring more onto the seat.

If that doesn't work, call an upholstery shop, or sell the car.

I am not sure if this is possible, but I have this recipe of sorts that I use of my dogs when they decide to fight skunks and get sprayed, it neutralized the odor. The only thing is it involves peroxide, which I believe bleaches fabrics. So if you could get the seat cover off I suppose this would be an option.

Tbl Spn - Dish SoapOne Bottle - Hydrogen Peroxide2 Tbl Spns - of Baking Soda

Mix vigorously, and apply. Usually takes 2-3 washes with my dogs, not sure with a seat. But it is a relatively cheap alternative to some pet odor cleaners. Not sure if this even helps at all...Good luck

I took my cat to the vet once without using a carrier. He wedged himself under the front seat and peed all over the carpet. This was before febreze and similar products. A good scrubbing with carpet shampoo and several coatings of baking soda (and leaving the windows cracked for a few weeks whenever possible) eventually got rid of the smell.

I've read good reviews on these, but I've never used them myself.

Invest in a cat carrier.

Thanks for your replies. I'll see what I can do (short of selling the car).

From car-reviews.automobile.com "Then there are the seats themselves, which are stuffed so fully with memory foam that they look to be bursting at the seams, but provide insufficient support." full article here: http://car-reviews.automobile..../2859/

or

Another thing specifications don’t tell you is that the seat pads in the Fit are far thinner than on the Versa, or that the Versa uses a half-inch thick layer of memory foam in its oversized seats to help with long-range comfort. Full article: zer...ote=1

Other references to the Versa's memory foam seats: http://www.carlist.com/newcars/2007/ncr ... s/...t.asp

I guess they are all making it up.

I like to see info from Nissan, third parties sometimes get there info screwed up....... If the Versa had memory foam, don't you think Nissan would want to advertise that feature? It's to their selling advantage. I also have copies of dealer car info in a binder showing many things that the Versa has...I'll will post them up when I have time. But they covered everything inside and out and nowhere does memory foam show up.

from the brochure:

you need a seat that appreciates your individual shape. That's why Versas' king-size front seats feature sculpted panels for custom-fit support. And with seat bottoms made of cushy double-thick foam . . .

[QUOTE=frankohabs]It's say's double thick foam, not memory foam, it's totally different materials.

Whatever Scuba Steve. The only reason I mentioned it is that it may have made a difference in the cleaning process. Can you say conclusively that the Versa SL (2007) does NOT have memory foam? How do you know? I have provided several references which indicate that it does. The fact that none of them are from Nissan does not mean they are not correct.

There are several products that use enzymes to kill the bacteria from pet urine. This removes the stains and the smell. These products work. Good luck.

This is why I always use a carrier when I take my cats to the vet. Also, I line the bottom of the carrier with lots of paper towels to soak up the urine, so it won't slosh out of the carrier onto my seat. This way it only smells bad for the rest of the trip!

Here's a great link, that may offer better or cheaper solutions than buying a commercial cleaner.

Great for other stains too.

Damn were we at war? I hate when a truce is called before I even realize I was in a war.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a feeling I may be trying several of the ideas. I bought a bottle of stuff specifically for cat urine and emptied like half of it on the seat. Still smells of cat pee. I'll keep trying.

I'm not sure, but I'd be worried about the airbag sensor in the seat when you're pouring tons of chemicals/liquids on to your seat...

I just had a cat urine problem a couple weeks ago. Get an enzyme cleaner and follow directions. Worked great!

I got my bottle at Target--It was less than $10 and didn't damage the clothes my cat decided to use as his litter. (so weird, he's never done that before!)

You just pour it on, let it dry, if it still smells repeat. The enzymes keep working until the odor is gone. It might take a couple applications if it is soaked into the foam.

and I think it is fairly safe--biodegradable, non-chemically toxic.

If that doesn't work, just burn the car cuz there is no saving it!
