Hey anybody. We've all asked this question and it gets repeditive but I would just like a fresh conversation and some input. OK so I put my second det in and Iv'e got some bugs to work out. Iv'e changed the thermostat out and the water pump seems to be operational but there is no circulation thru the radiator and thru the block. So basically I will let it sit and idle and after about 10-15 minutes the temp starts to go up. There is no oil in the water. My fan wont kick on but I know what that is. Beside its freakin cold in dallas right now. The big thing is that when it gets high and I kill the car I can take the radiator cap off and the water is still cool and so is the upper radiator hose. Also the heater will not spit out any warm air because of the lack of circulation thru the rad.,block and the heater core. Im positive that the heater core is fine. There are no leaks and I dont smell any coolant in the exhaust. Iv'e bleed it thru the bleed off valve where the upper rad hose conects to the head to a certain extent and still no luck. Im thinking that there is a huge air trap somewhere. Iv'e always changed my rad. fluid a couple of times a year to do other stuff so the rad. should be pretty clean and not clogged. Since the motor has set for so long I think it is safe to say that the block was pretty dry. Who would like to comment first?

Have you tried flushing the engine? I just took my exhaust manifold and turbo off and reinstalled today. When we took off one of the coolant lines, there was a fat glob of that silicone crap stuck inside one of the bolts, so my turbo wasn't getting the coolant it needed. Glad we caught that early. Maybe something similar is going on in your engine.

Take the thermostat out and either put in a new one or leave it out and see if you still have the same problem. There is a chance that the head gasket is blown even though you don't have antifreeze in your oil.

where did u get ur motor from?? that "may" hav something to do with it...hope u didn't get ripped. did it come with a compression test? it could be the headgasket, BUT the coolant situation being still cool sounds a lil odd.

I worked 95 hrs last weak so I haven't had a chance to do anything. Tonight or tommorrow I am going to take the thermostat out and see what it does if anything I will change the water pump out. Who knows. It doesn't sound funny but then again the compression is to high. go figure. Im not sure about this block.

I saw something related in another thread... are you sure you hooked up the heater hoses in the back of the engine the right way?
Since you are on your second SR I figured you would have this covered but you can never be sure..... the U bent heater hose connects to the top heater plug and the heater hose coming out right by the manifold goes to the lower plug.... not sure what would happen if they were reversed.

sounds like you put a redtop s13 motor into a s14...am i getting warmer??? the water temp sending unit isn't right for the s14 gauge. get an autometer water temp gauge and keep it under 210 degrees and you will be fine. shaunsr20det slinger
