That piece does not serve a major necessary function. However that prevent big debris getting into your ventaltion system. (i.e.: leaves, pine needles, or big bugs) It should be an inexpensive part or you can use certain ahesive to tack things back together. Hopefully this information is some use to you.

Thanks. It's not broken, I just popped it out for the photo op. It looked like a cover/access point for a filter, but there's just a big empty space. Kinda like opening the door on the TARDIS.
