my car was running like crap, and blue smoke was coming out of it. Someone blocked it off with a bolt, and was running fine.

Id appreciate knowing what the part is.

Thanks.

Dont i need it for visual inspection ....when the car goes thru inspection?

I like a clean engine bay, i saw a thread on how to remove all the extra stuff. How hard was it to remove?

Any pics of yours?

i dont have any pictures...it cleans it up a bit, after its all gone you have maybe 3 vac lines left for essentials. you can get it all out and capped off in like half hour.im in va and where i am we dont have visual inspection of the engine....so im not sure if a stickler would fail you for not having it....maybe youd fail on the not having all emissions componenets part of it but im not sure dude.hopefully someone from pa. will chime in if they have passed ok without it.

Ive got a sohc too, i just grabbed this pic from somewhere else to use the pic. Im just about 16 miles away from 200,000. Im wondering how removing all the vacuum lines would affect it if at all. And why does removing the bolt covering the hole in that box change how the car runs?

Just wonderin

another thing, the line connected to your exhaust manifold will probably be fused stuck, i didnt have to worry about it because i removed the stock one since it was cracked open, i replaced with a header and just capped it off.ive seen people cut thier stock one and weld a coin over it for that reason.just wanted to let you in on that pain in the a** part of it.

i beleive since your was uncorked it would be due to a vacuum leak and when plugged, it fixed the leak.me personally... after i took everything i didnt need out, and i mean everything, the car had more pep...BUT and i dont know why and still havent figured it out, the car runs rich before 3000 rpm, after that it hauls...not too bad but you can tell its dumping gas.still trying to troubleshoot that damn glitch

If you use a new header/exhaust combo, and it doesnt have that outlet, i guess you can just remove all that stuff?

That part does absolutly nothing in the form of driveability and/or performance. All it does is help the cat to heat up on cold starts. Thats it. Which is why nissan discontinued the AIV in later S14s. Nissan makes a plug for the manifold to remove the AIV. I'll look for the part # in a minute. Unless the inspector knows his/her nissans, you shouldn't have any trouble on the visual inspection. And if they test your car for emissions, removing it will not effect the results at opperating temperature.
