My good friend, thats an interesting piece. How are your studies coming along? How does it feel living in anticipation of being a medical doctor in a few years?heliochrome85 wrote:

well, without going full tilt on the topic, i will say this. I have read the news, and the bill proposed. My read of it is that it is intended to reduce the number of cases where the morning after pill was not dispensed, because of doctor or pharmacist's views. According to the WSJ, "There have been recent reports of women being denied emergency contraception, which is federally approved for use within 72 hours of intercourse, the Trib says." This can naturally be construed, as it has by members of the religious right, as a means to force doctors to perform abortions. This is simply not true. Also, on a side note, try finding something on the topic that doesnt come from a conservative source.dusred wrote:I didn't know you were in Med School, Helio.
If you don't mind, how do you feel about doing abortions?
A major why illegal "over the counter" abortions carry such a high risk factor - it is best done by an expert.heliochrome85 wrote:It is incredibly difficult to have one done and not lose the ability to have children in the future.
I tend to agree with the above. As far as a "conservative source", if the bill does not have specifics in it then you can be ensured it will be used by the pro-choice movement to force their viewpoints. That's my main concern with these proposals.heliochrome85 wrote:

As for abortion, most doctors can not, even at the governments behest, perform abortions. Its not because of morals, its because of training. Abortions are highly skilled procedures, regardless of how they sound (whisk to scramble the brains, etc.). It is incredibly difficult to have one done and not lose the ability to have children in the future. My personal view is that far too many people turn to abortions in this country to get out of the consequences of their irresponsible and reprehensible sexual activity. My view is that they should be LEGAL BUT RARE.
I think it should be part of the deal with abortions that if you get one you also have to get your tubes tied to avoid more in the future.heliochrome85 wrote:It is incredibly difficult to have one done and not lose the ability to have children in the future.
couple problems1.) in cases of rape/incest, why should the mother have to pay the price?dusred wrote:

I see it as more of a warning. Gov needs to learn to NOT leave loopholes and be as clear and concise as possible.heliochrome85 wrote:true, but the flipside is the same. if the bill doesnt have the specific wording you can rest assured the pro-life movement would push their agenda, as in this case.
I agree. But my worry is that the major proponents of the abortion ban (sarah palin et John McCain) dont consider such cases as legitimate exceptions to any ban. Unfortunately, any abortion ban would cause: abortions to be performed at home, with coat hangers, like in mexico and other third world areas; and two pregnancies due to rape and incest to come to full term, destroying any life the victim might have had.AZhitman wrote:Rape / incest pregnancies are infinitesimally small in number, and as such, are only trucked out by certain uneducated pro-choice folks in support of their agenda.
T-I can agree with you on this comment. Now get back to studying.budheliochrome85 wrote:Like i said, It should be SAFE, RARE, and LEGAL.
