So I thought I'd post some pictures of the pistons I pulled out of my motor. What happened to these pistons is why you have to have good fuel management to make power instead of just simply turning the boost up high.

You can see that an entire portion of the ring land between the compression rings is missing. Best guess is it was vaporized as it didn't score the cylinder wall there, but did leave some heat marks. This was from number 1

This is out of the number 2 cylinder. You can see that on the valve sides that it was starting to melt and actually bubbled. Number 4 also had a similar fate.

If you want to keep your pistons from looking like this and trashing your motor, you HAVE to consider fuel management. Otherwise you'll run into problems such as these.

These pistons were pulled from my motor rebuild block. I didn't detonate these pistons, just FYI

I don't know. It was a blown blacktop block I picked up.

wow those are in bad shape. mine wernt too bad i guess, the rings were still intact and the top of the piston was ok. i guess the previous owner of your engine didnt realize how important a good fuel systems is. i'll try to post some pics of my pistons and block in my thread so you can check them out. since i seem to have none posted yet.

here's the full extent of the damage done to that piston. The compression rings were holding in those two chunks of ring land tightly. It is simply amazing that the bore of the cylinder this piston was in didn't get scratched beyond repair.
