When I see the original sketches of the 2002 Q45/Cima, I get frustrated. How can a car that looked so good in the initial stages end up so uneventful in the production version.

The F50 design sketches are really nice. If you look carefully, you will see some of the new Benz S class in the shape.

Anyway, I hope the new Q has some passion in it like the original G50.

Yeah, they dropped the ball there.

If it doesn't make a statement, doesn't matter how good it is because it won't sell.

But it is nice to be invisible on the highway when it comes to the gendarmes.

Here's another angle. Man, this car looks good!

What happened Nissan? Did the bean counters win the battle against the designers?

Now we see where MB got their ideas for the 07 S-class.

Hmm, I wonder what the new S class reminds me of?

Strange, how the Japanese are accused of biting off the German designs. Well, I guess Toyota/Lesux is guilty.

But let's give Nissan credit for an original design even if it got watered down by production time.

Honestly, I like the production version a LOT better.

I have to disagree MOD. I cant shake the fact that I always think its a funny lookin Taurus every time I see one. (which isn't often)

Ive driven one, I think they are great cars. Not as fun as the G50, but more of a car I'd take a date out in.

If they would have produced that body, I think it would have been a nice slap in the face for the Luxury auto scene.

Instead they released a conservative body (ala Lexus) to try and match what they were doing. But they failed. imho

That had the potential to be very sporty and sexy. To bad.

That first sketch made me think "Dodge Intrepid" but the others have a certain appeal...

agreed, the initial design sketches had so much potential.

IMO a lot of people were turned off by the F50 in stock form. The headlights without the proper bumper design made the car look un-desireable.

but once you add a JDM lip kit and add the thick chrome trimmings, it is a totally different car. IMO this car is a diamond in the rough.

when fixed up appropriately it will kill the LS430 in stock or dressed up form.

Exactly. The F50 with a nice body kit and bigger wheels is a completely different car. I really like this kit by Wald.

Maybe a souped up Maxima, but not in the same universe as a Taurus. It’s a sleeper, but when I stomp on the gas I get a lot of attention.

I never said they were slow.......

I stated as far as styling, I always think its a taurus, until I get closer. There well built, nice looking cars. Not bashing them at all.

Funny you mention that....when I borrowed my brother's G50, the first thing my friend said when she got into it was "this is a really nice Ford Taurus". Since both cars don't have a grill rather just an emblem on the front, they both looked the same to her.

I too like the production car since I bought one. And being a sleeper is a good thing too.

See, being the Y33 addict that I am I have to agree that ht production model of the F50 just looks blah. I also have to agree that with mods it can look a lot more aggressive, but to me the Y33 had that from jump street.

Then again, I have seen other Y33s that looked watered down too, so I guess I am biased since I bought straight into a Touring model - it made all the difference in the world.

If I could capture the power and acceleration of an F50 in a Y33 (without having to bolt on a Twin turbo from a Cayenne) I'd have it made!

BTW, if you'd like I can post the pics to my ftp server and they'll post here - see my other thread to see the pics - fast server and being offsite makes them viewable.

The pics are linked to a site that is currently down. It should be up soon, hopefully.

I tried to upload the pics to the NICO gallery but it wasn't happening.
