I became a car kid when my Dad drag raced a 70's Firebird in his Saab 900 turbo on the way to one of my hockey games when I was a wee pup. I've been corrupt ever since!

Harder to do these days. Especially when you buy a car that is designed with speed in mind. Heck Infiniti even paid for me to race (drivers safety course) at Firebirds road tracks. Jaguar has the 'Alive' experience where you beat on a factory demo XFR/XKR-S for the day at a race track.

yep here is 4 year old Gwoods sitting in our new 1982 Mustang GT with the HO 5.0 4 barrel carb, true dual exhaust and a 4spd.

My favorate memory in the car was the family driving from Phoenix to Colorado. Going through the indian rez I asked dad how fast will it go, don't know son lets find out. Mom and sis were asleep in the back so he buried the speedo. Mom woke up and yelled, so he starts trying to slow down. Its off the 85 mph speedo and mom says "now look what you did you broke the speedometer" LOL

There are a lot of things that make me wish I still had my Q45, but the biggest is my little brother. He turns 15 in January and gets his learner's permit shortly after. letting him take the driver seat in that car sounds like a blast for both of us, and a good way to teach some respect for torque, how to steer with the throttle, and why people who think that FWD is better in the snow are idiots. Every young new driver should get a chance to drive a ridiculous car early on. Teach a little more respect for mom's Murano.

I wish I could have saved my G35 sedan for my oldest but hes only 7 so.... I did promise him my 1965 CJ-5 with a built 327 when he turns 16. I don't worry about him killing himself in it because 'some assembly is required' + cage and 5 point belts with a boxed frame. I would live to get a early 70's 240z for the middle kid and a 60's camaro for the youngest.

Same here! My 7 year old did the valve adjustment on the 327 when he was around 4 :)
The 2 year old makes acceleration noises when he plays with hotwheels, which we have over 2000 of. I even found the old school folding sets on ebay for them.

We have this one and a few others... ya know for the kids

My 2yr old brings 2 hotwheels cars with him everywhere he goes, I have miles of orange race track to go with.

We got my middle boy this when he was 3. I have to admit my wife picked it out though.

Haha, the ol father-son bond initiated by "...don't tell mom, but I'm about to smoke this guy".
My father and I seem to have a tradition of really hauling a** in rental cars when my mom is asleep. First time I remember was maxing out a Chevy Malibu (one of those late 90s/early 2000s models) on a business trip going through the painted desert. I think we hit about 135. We were both impressed. Another time we took an Audi A4 2.0T to the limit on the Autobahn. My mom woke up after a while, looked out the window and sort of calmly said "...how fast are we going?". My dad looks at the spedometer and says "Damned if I know... the speedometer says 205" which of course freaked her out. I explained it was metric, and then the inevitable "well how many miles per hour is that" question came. Again she freaked out when I told her the answer haha.

We drag raced a jeep during one of those New England blizzard apocalypse times... no one was on the open highway and it wasn't even plowed. The guy in the jeep thought he was hot s*** but the old man had just gotten new tires in the 4WD Tundra. Smoked him to ~40 mph, which seems like hauling a** on snow covered highway. We then went to the unplowed highschool parking lot and did donuts haha.

Very cool. :dblthumb: Reminds me of my dad. When I was a boy, he used to take me out in whatever sports car he had in the garage out on sunny Sunday mornings to flog the crap out of it on the nearby twisty boat basin roads on the NJ side of the Hudson River.

I have vivid memories of sitting on my dad's briefcase at the wheel of his dark green 68 Cougar, making motor noises while parked in the garage.
That was the only one of his hot cars I ever got to see...he'd sold the Chevelle and E-type by the time I was born. But he managed to make riding in even the gutless old carbureted Chevy Nova fun. And then there was off-roading in his K20 pickup in the middle-of-nodamnwhere central Utah. Nothing quite manages to scare driver-awareness into you like a vertical dropoff outside your window.
I was a car guy from the moment they cut my umbilical cord. I made motor noises before I talked. It's easy to see where the genes come from, but it helps to have some encouragement.

Holy s***! That's awesome!

If I ever have a kid, I'd like to pick up a junkyard engine (don't really care what kind), clean it up a bit, and then do a gradual tear-down and rebuild with him (or her). Visual V8s are neat, but nothing beats the real thing. Visual V8s don't care about lash and bearing fitment.

Ooooh...Old school GTO. Me likey.

As for the video, I should get some of my boys. I let my oldest shift for me quite a lot and he does very well. I never have to tell him when to shift, he just knows. Still working on teaching him down shifting techniques, but overall, he's spot on. He likes spirited driving, but he doesn't much like hard acceleration. I came around a corner in the R once, stepped hard on the gas at the apex and the back end stepped out just a little bit. By the time I reached the top of second, I was probably close to 65. Grabbed third and took it up to about 7k and let off. Looked over and Kai's eyes were about the diameter of a large mouth coffee cup...lol.

A.J, on the other hand gets a huge giggle out of the GT-R.
