This is what my V8s Pathfinders oil looked like at 5000 miles

I think this is absolutely amazing.
5000 miles of hard summer driving including high speed runs through hilly interstate at extra legal speeds at 100F external temperature. 170,000 miles on engine.

It is clear to me this oil resisted oxidation extremely well.
Its Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic in 10w-30 (backed by a K&N HP1010 filter)

Why did it resist breakdown to well?
I think the fact that the multiviscosity spread is so small must have a lot to do with it as there must be few if any Viscosity index improvers in this formulation available to break down.
Keeping in mind that this is a high milage oil packed with extra detergents there is another thing this tells me.
The engine is internally sqeaky clean or the detergent package would have pulled more dirt out of the engine into the oil.
And finally this engine clearly has zero blowby and doesnt use a drop of oil (the oils position on dipstick a touch below "full" is the same after it was filled)

If this wasnt a Nissan engine one would have to suspect a recent engine replacement had taken place, right before I bought it 5 months ago.
But its the original engine.

Just goes to show how good Nissans really are.

I'm a true believer in Valvoline Hi-mi oils . As I remember they got onboard very early and I think they have done whatever kind of R&D to just about be the 'leader' . And they're latest full synthetic (non hi-mi) has mfr's designations right on the back bottle , not just the typical API and SAE etc. etc. Cause many oils will not do this, yet they will have , like ,online " well you may use this oil for ..... such & such cars , specs " BUT the bottles will not show it ????????? Like Valvoline SHOWS LL-01 for my 650i , on back bottle , among Mercedes , Audi etc. etc.
factory's designations.
I'm a purist as to what spec ON THE BOTTLE goes into my vehicles . And I won't go into the " hey Castrol's CVT fluid is NS-1 , NS-2 , NS-3 NS- ALL ? " , cause a CVT - ya put the FACTORY'S single designation CVT fluid . i.e. Nissan NS-2 in my Juke. When I go to Nissan dealer to buy , there's ALWAYS several CVT's being svc or replaced, but the parts guys and the mechanics themselves LAUGH at all the DIY customers who've screwed things up - high on the list is these aftermarket " fits -all " fluids , and by big-name oil co's !!!!! Customers admit to them.

Update: it was almost as clean looking after 7400 miles of high summer hard driving, too.
Changed it anyway since I was about to embark on a 1500 miles roundtrip drive next and I didnt feel good enough leaving in "old" oil.
