this is what the previous owner did to the engine.the hole is HUGE.we found pieces of the block in the hood, wedged in the heat shielding, pieces of the piston, exploded...

we think this is the reason for the problem.it looks like a mechanic was working on it and broke off the tubes shown here. we got to looking, and this connects to the butterfly in the intake runners. assuming this is how the rev limiter works (the cpu sends a signal to the solenoid, which in turn vaccuum closes the butterfly, limiting your engine) it didnt stop the previous owner from revving the piss outa this engine.the good news is the clutch is pretty high dollar and was put on JUST before he blew the engine. so at least i have a new clutch =P

whoever sold that for 150$ lol didnt know what they could sell it for. you could part it out. all the fenders/and front bumper togther for atleast 275$. and the wheels/rims looked good enough for 250$ as well. and if the hatch wasnt rusted. alot of money there too.. knowing that most hatchabcks came in silver.. wouldnt be any need to paint it whoever bought the replacement. and the interior if in good condition is good for people wanting to switch out their brown interior. as well as many pother thigns on the car. the previous owner definatley coudl of got at least 1,000 for the parts. and still have a bunch left over to part out. and if he tried long enough maybe close to 1,750

Yeah, the vac hose wasn't the problem...the previous owner was ;) That vac hose just opens the scv valves, which wont kill a motor, just be an annoyance at higher rpms. Maybe since they weren't opening he revved it more thinking it'd have more power, oops :D you suck though, I got mine in similar shape for 200 bucks...you have me beat!

I bought mine from a local nico member,1990 SE FB, running but in need of a trans for $700. Got the trans for free and installed in exchange for my parts car. Only to discover more rust than the titanic. Now I am in a quandry of fix it up and keep it, or fix it up and sell it to look for a better one. Count yourselves lucky gentle men.

I bought mine four years ago with no rust and 15K miles on a '93 240sx. Only paid 3000 dollars. Thats the beater of ALL.

The early '93 with the 91 cams. YEAH I RULE YOU ALL.

i was under the impression that the vac hoses operated the butterfly, and if the butterfly wasnt able to close when the comp said to, the prev owner was able to rev it to the moon.obviously the owner is at fault, but i was just saying that i think the vac is what let him.and im selling my fc, but not for 50 bucks =P

I don't believe those SCV/butterfly plates have any control over high rpm. Never really went deep into a KA, but my CA has a similar setup. As far as I know, they just stay closed at low rpm for increased torque, and open at higher rpm. Correct me if I'm wrong...but I believe the rev limiter is a computer controlled fuel cut.

xy is right, hondas have them too, just to increase torque at lower rpms, the rev limiter is a computer controlled function.

Ouch thats a mighty big gap. You just have to have cash at the right time to come accross a deal like that. Nick

yeah, youd be suprised what kind of deals you get when you flash c notes. this guy wouldnt sell at all, then i flashed a c, asked if he was sure, he said no deal, i walked, and he came after me.

and about the butterfly, ill have to check my fsm, but if i were nissan, thats how id do my rev limiter. the vac tubes connect to the computer, and theyd stop the air getting to the engine at WOT, but the injectors sit right in front of those. this would allow the engine to bog pretty bad, but not be harmful as youll get too much fuel and not risk detonation if somehow you only got a little fuel with fuel cut.anyway, im not arguing, just saying thats how id do it if i were nissan =Poff to work!

or you can just not let the engine fire. its much easier that restricting the flow and riching out the motor, causing it to stall. the butterflys are there simply to increase restrction, and therefore torque, at lower rpms.
