i was driving home from a friends house today, DOING THE LIMIT, when a cop came from the side of the road and pulled me over. i asked him what i was doing wrong, and he said:

cop:"speeding"

me:"but i wasnt speeding"

cop:"well, its the end of the month, and i need the tickets. liscence and registration."

me:"come on, you cant do this, i wasnt even speeding"

cop:"liscence and registration please"

me:"what? not a chance, let me see the gun, the print out, anything that says i was speeding"

cop:"you're just gonna have to take my word kid, now liscence and registration"

*i give it to him, he leaves and comes back*

cop:"ok, heres a ticket for going 84km/h in a 50km/h zone"

me:"WHAT? **** THAT, ITS A 60 ZONE, AND I WASNT SPEEDING!"

cop:" oh, ok"

*changes the ticket to a 60km/h zone, you can see where he changed it*

cop:" ok kid, now this doesnt mean you're guilty. you can plead not guilty, and i wont even show up at court."

me:"then why give me a ticket in the first place?"

cop:"listen alex, (my name), its the end of the month, and i need the tickets"

me:"why? to make your quota?"

cop:"bingo, its not your fault, its just that time of the month. drive safely"

*the cop leaves, and i leave the spot a half hour later after i pick my jaw up off my floor mat*no one else on the road, no one in my car, no partner of the cop. just me and him

I keep a microcassette recorder with fresh batteries in the console of my Q. When being pulled over (doesn't happen much), I discretely pull it out and press record before I come to a stop. I put it on the right side of my right leg so it's hidden. Would have been a lifesaver for you. It's NOT admissable in court, but if you question an officer on the stand and then ask if he was aware your conversation was taped, that can make for a very interesting discussion (between you, the cop and the judge in private in the judge's chambers).

Second, I keep a fresh disposable camera. Photograph the scene including your car where stopped. Make note of traffic patterns, time, temperature, conditions, anything out of the ordinary. These will all be critical when you go to court.

More good stuff for you guys later - Like I said before, beating a ticket begins BEFORE you ever leave your garage.
