ok after a week of class and work I finally got time to tinker with my 240. Original problem = start run ok minus loud a** ticking.. not knocking.. may be timing chain rattle? lifter?.. I bought it from this kid who said it was knocking for 300 and wanna do an rb swap anyways but not right away so If i can save the dohc in it I be quite happy. If I take my foot off the gas the car slowly dies. Ok I did a tune up and oil change and changed the rotor button (only tht because I'm cheap and it looked the worse of the 3 distributor components).. cylinder 3 is still dead.. no fire from the distributor at all even new wires it won't arc to the block.. distributor needed I figure. But 1 dead cylinder wouldn't make the car shut off... so wtf.. nor would that be the noise I'm hearing.. It sounds like a gremlin on crack with a metal ding dong humping the cover behind my fan(seriusly no better description) help please

I feel retarded for answering my own question buuut... my firing problem hardly matters seeing as how I took the #3 cylinder spark plug out started the car and oil shot out sooo. I'll just buy a new motor and do my swap.. yay
