27000 kms...engine ticks when cold, found that with search...

What I could not find...engine ticks louder when warm, sitting at a red light with the car in drive and my foot on the brake.

SO, I put the car in neutral and the noise goes away...put in drive, ticking comes back, neutral goes away.

This ticking is LOUD and embarrassing...

I could not find this in help...any suggestions or any body have this issue, yet?

Help...

The car is a Versa S it has the 1.8l w/ 4at...I opened the hood and it seems to be coming from the top end of the engine...and it speeds up with engine speed...

There is no engine noise when the car is in neutral with foot on brake...but super loud ticking when car is in drive but foot is on the brake like u are sitting at a red light...

How loud are we talking about? It sounds like the injectors being noisy. The Versa is one of the quietest cars I've ever driven. What gas do you use?

LOUD...like an amplified lifter tick in a Chevy 305...

All of my Nissans have had that lifter tick. The Versa is pretty loud in comparison to my 240sx and Sentra. Doesn't matter if it is warm or cold.

What's weird is that it only ticks when in drive. I was thinking transmission at first from your description, but you're saying it sounds like it's coming from the head which makes no sense if it only ticks when in 'D'.

I would say something is probably wrong with your transmission. Bad exhaust leak or something wrong with your valvetrain.

If I were you, I'd take it in to have it looked at ASAP.

Started car today drove about 35 kms in the city , stop and go...the car did not make a sound...even the small/barely noticable amount of lifter or injector noise was missing...car drives like a champ...

But I did take a Kia Soul for a test run today while waiting for the Cube to arrive at our local dealership...nice vehicle...too much hard plastic inside on doors, arm rests, etc...and I thought for what you got it was a bit pricy...

I'd say your problem is that you're from Regina, but that would be rude and out of character. [insert whatever smilie you prefer]

The ticking sound comes on when the car is on. It dont matter whether its on drive or not. And the faster you go the faster the ticking sound until you rev the engine to 3.5k and up. I have been asking this question for months and no one had an answer lol. I have heard a lot of cars with this same sound.

When u are driving there is no real sound...but when you stop and wait at a light in drive with your foot on the brake, there is a ticking noise like a clock or and now there is a double tick like a lawn sprinkler... or 2 lawn sprinklers or electronic solenoids clicking. While waiting at the light if I put the car in park or neutral the sound goes away, then if I put it back into drive the sound comes back...

I am booking it into an exhaust shop to rule out a leak...then I am going to drive it to the dealer and take a tech or service writer for a drive so they can hear it and then they can fix it cause the car still has a s*** pile of warranty..if they dont help me and say its normal I will go get the keys for a new one have them show me the new one making the same noise...

Thanks

Lee
