*I do not condone streetracing but I do it so I will not get preachy. Just be careful out there*

I wake up this morning sick as hell. Nose is runny, coughing, throat feels like I been eating steel wool and I am really dizzy. I look over and they is my hunny asleep, innocent, unsuspecting. Well, lets just say the neighbors got an earful. I drag my *** out of bed gargle some listerine to stave off the cat breath and jump in Pooh. The fuel pressure is doing weird stuff, shooting up and sometimes refusing to pressurize on startup, it starts today. I wheel it out onto the road thinking about the missing lugnut on the front wheel and hit the convenience store for hot lemon juice and a riceball. On the way out an S14 Silvia rolls by with a base plate and a loud muffler. Well, it is on my way to work He is in a Q, at least he has a Q muffler, it looks like a 50mm main pipe. I give him a little blowoff hello and he bites. He takes off and I get right on him. We come up to an intersection and a slower car is blocking and this fool goes into the left turn lane and cuts him off (remember, we drive on the left here). I think "oh that's how we are doing this" and pass the guy in the oncoming lane. No chances to pass for a couple of miles so I just hang back and periodically surge on him to mess with his head. Finally the road is opening to two lanes, he hesitates, I hang back and he goes for it. We pass the other cars on the left and I am laughing because I could just toe the gas and rear end him, he is slow. I go to pass on the right just as he starts to move that way. I check oncoming, I got space and pass him on the right going head to head with some dude coming the other way and I am gone, 100 meters open up in seconds as we crest the hill and head down the backside. Problem, I am coming to a right turn I need to make and I know he is going to think I am just passing so I throw up a bunch of "dude, I am just turning right hand signals" (not sure if they are internationally recognized). Good thing too cause he is coming up fast in the right turn lane. He grabs brakes and slips by on the left as I make the right in a tire-squealing slide just for style. My CA18 is old, the turbine is howling from failing bearings and oil leaks everywhere but it still has enough to bitchslap a lousy SR20DE.

So it's 8 oclock and I have already had some good lovin in spite of a bad cold and a nice race regardless of my cars shortcomings. Most of the guys in this forum seem to have that "shut up and get it done" mentality. I see a lot of whiners in the other engine forums who buckle at the slightest difficulties. Not so here. The mongrol horde will not be disuaded by difficulty and adversity. We are special IMO and true enthusiasts for our engines and life in general.

CA18 people are the underdog...and proud of it.

I laugh at your cold and steelwool throat :-) It's hot and sunny here in Sydney today.

Anyone with a stock tailpipe and excessive attitude is fair game.

How the hell does a S14 Silvia have a SR20DE I thought they were all DET?

Props though, i went toe to floor board with a late 80's porsche before i put her away for winter. Made me feel good about my 19 year old motor.

No, there were NA Silvias as well. The S13 and the S15 also have NA versions. The S13 and S14 NA models were called "Q"s and the turbo "K"s. The S15 NA is called a "Spec S" and the turbo a "Spec R". The vert S15 varietta can only be had with the NA motor too.

The S14 Q new had 160ps, my RS13 had 175ps. Assuming his car lost power over time and picked up a little with the muffler I suspect he had about 150ps. Judging by the results I'd say my 150000 kilometer leaky old CA18 has about 180ps now with the S14 turbine at .5 kilo, FMIC, full exhuast and VPC. Now bad for a tired old 1.8 liter.

I never assume. I have beaten RB20DETs with a CA18DE (I didn't forget the T either). My first wife has beaten a corvette with a 20-valve 4AG and I have done the same with an L20ET. Taking any opponent lightly could lead to you getting a nice view of their tallights. Racing isn't a math problem followed by an awards ceremony. In this instance what one would expect to happen did. Now had this guy been my evil twin and had a 2.2 high comp stroker with ITBs and huge cams I would have been in a bit of trouble. I have a good ear though and would have figured it out before I stepped up. Step 1. open glovebox and turn up the EVC

Step 2. see what happens

You nailed my boost theory right there buddy, only mines not in the glove box. I usually run at the stock 7psi. My HKS EVC EZ is mounted on the kick panel under the steering wheel. It's set to 15psi and normally off. With the fools running around in my area, 7psi is enough to battle past them. I like to barely beat people, it gives them false hope and confidence.

I've only had to turn it on once in a race, and that was against an STI. I lost, but I was only running the stock CA T25. If it had been on the highway, I might have reeled him back in....

My ca runs 9psi...and its stock. Its at 24ish lbs of vaccum so I dont think I have a leak causing a surge...ugh.

I keep the boost as low as possible for now. I have to keep the car running for at least another year. Now my bike looks like it needs a topend rebuild so I don't want to get too crazy or I will be driving sneakers to work.

If you've got upgrades the stocker turbo will "creep" (not necessarilly slow boost creep, but going beyond the wastegate setting) its way up to there.. Mine normally runs around 6-7psi but if I check my peak (got one of them fancy greddy gauges with peak memory) its usually just at 9psi-ish. Of course this is all rough estimates, the thing reads in bar :D

The only times anyone hassles me I've just left Wendy's or something after work (after midnight) it seems.. so I am driving one hand on the wheel, one on the shifter when I need to shift, and in all corners that hand is on the food bag! drink pinned between my legs. I've overtaken from behind several times near my house, whether they turn onto my street into the inside or outside lane I can put the car in either with some throttle induced steering, passing them within 20-30 feet of the corner in whichever lane they didn't take..

and yeah, do as we say, not as we do kids! street racing will get you killed! (thats why I usually let the fools drive around in front until I have a nice opening)
