all this talk about driving auto manual got me all excited on my way to work so I thought why not mess around with it a little bit. As I was upshifting everything was lovely but when I had to slow down of course I downshifted and all of a sudden the needle jumped to 5000 rpm or 5th gear whatever you want to call it, while it was on the 5th mark she was growlling so I had no choice but to put it back on auto. What was the cause of this action taken by my baby and is she hurt?

Don't worry... she's not hurt... Just don't do this when your engine is cold, then its fine. Your G likes to rev high.

When you downshift, your gearing ratio causes your engine speed to go up, and you get this loud sound - the higher the engine speed, the louder it gets in any car. The reason for higher engine speeds: so you get more available power then you push the gas pedal.

Although this won't necessarily hurt your car, I wouldn't suggest you rev that high under normal driving for the fun of it or something.... This will waste gas, and I'd suppose it may get uncomfortable, and will cause long term harm to you engine : uneeded premature wear.
