Evo issue #491, July '03 compared numbers as follows:
Carrera GT price: EUR 461,058 (you do the conversion)
Carrera GT: 0-62mph in 3.9sec, 205mphEnzo: 0-62mph in 3.65sec, 218mph
"on paper, in a straight line, the Carrera GT is neither quicker nor faster than the Enzo."
...we all know that Porsche has always been about a total package driving experience, with an emphasis on handling dynamics....making what some would call the a true "driver's car"...not a drag racer.
Why the Carrera GT is a racing car for the road:1. Wheels: The center-locking wheels are magnesium. 25% lighter than conventional aluminum alloy wheels, and significantly stronger, too.2. Suspension: The push-rod suspension is almost identical to that used on the 1998 Le Mans winning 911 GT1. Wishbones are forged aluminum, push-rods are stainless steel.3. Engine layout: Dry sump, 169mm diameter ceramic composite clutch and all-new transverse six speed manual transmission allows the V10 engine to be placed very low in the car--lower than would be possible with a boxer engine--and keeps the wheelbase as short as possible. Engine is mounted to the unique carbon reinforced plastic cradle frame which uses an aluminum honeycomb core.4. Engine: Originally developed for the LMP2000 Le Mans car, the 68degree V10 displaces 5.7 liters; developes 612bhp at 8000rpm and 435lb/ft at 5750rpm. The center of the forged steel crank is just 98.5mm from the bottom of the engine, titanium conrods cope with high revs and intake valves feature Variocam valiable timing; Engine meets '05 emission regs.(UK regs?)5. Brakes: Carrera GT brakes are a development of the ceramic carbon fiber composite units used in the GT2. Each vented and cross drilled 380mm rotor takes one week to make. 50% lighter than conventional rotors, they are also longer lasting and offer better feel and performance at high temperatures. All-new six pot aluminum monobloc calipers are fitted all around.
"The Carrera GT is the first road car to have it's chassis and engine and transmission mount made entirely from carbon fiber reinforced plastic(CFRP).....The Carrera GT chassis weighs 100KG and is made of 1000 pieces each taking a week to hand-build." --EVOmagazine July'03
