Okay, I got my car 3 years ago and the previous owner installed an aftermarket head unit. It didn't work so I replaced it with a new one.

This is where it gets bad, he cut the harness for the radio and it was all just twisted and electrical taped together. So I started to color match and what now and solder and heat shrink my new head unit in. I had a mysterious red wire running from the battery to inside the car, while installing the head unit I figured out it was the power to the stereo. Well I didn't want to mess with it because the harness was cut. So I added a 10amp fuse, the idiot didn't.

I've been running it for 3 years (with no problems and get to listen to the radio with the car off) and now it's starting to bug me because I'm installing some fog lights.

Here's my question I remember vaguely about something an ignition harness being somehow connect to the radio; Should I leave it or fix it?

Another question can I hook up my fog lights to my car's harness or should I just use the red wire already connected to the battery.

Btw, it's a 93 240sx. Thanks for reading this!

You are half right...the radio needs nothing to do with the ignition HARNESS...there is an ignition WIRE going into the radio though. All the name means is that it needs a source that only has 12v when the key is on. This is what tells the radio to turn on. The yellow 12v constant wire is what keeps your clock and radio stations. Since both your radio wires are connected to a constant source, you get to listen to your radio without the key on. This will slowly drain your battery quicker, though.

Props for connecting the 10a fuse. People do not realize how a couple bucks and 5 minutes of extra work can save you loads more time and money in the future.

I would not recommend hooking up the fog lights to your red radio wire. The lights and radio will draw too much power from the light gauge wire, and neither will run at full power. Run a new wire.
