In one warped respect he's right. Bush should have moved the war from Afghanistan to Pakistan when bin Laden crossed the border and began being harbored there.

i honestly wonder if we actually could have moved it to pakistan. realistically, afghanistan has no voice in america. pakistan on the other hand does, and it has a populace who may actually be crazier than all the terrorists combined. oh, and theyve got nukes.

im not saying pakistan would have necessarily gone to war with the US, but it sure as hell isnt Afghanistan or Iraq.

The selling point to going to Afghanistan in the first place was to get bin Laden for 9/11/2001. When he crossed the border to Pakistan and the Taliban was removed from power, why did we stay? If we couldn't chase the guy we should have been out of there.

Let's not forget, our presence in Afghanistan has been widely regarded as "where we should have been all along" by the left and the right.

Steve, your point's not lost - I often wonder why we even try... then I'm reminded why, and another month passes, and I'm wondering why we're there - again.

no one is arguing with the legitimacy of Afghanistan. Im just saying that ultimately it was a move we probably should be thankful the commanders didnt make.

this wasnt a judgement error like McClellan not pursuing Lee after the Battle of Anteitam. this is one where had we gone in, things would be infinately worse.

ultimately, OBL is just the head, but Al-qaeda is like a hydra. you cut off the head, and 3 more grow back. Had we gotten OBL, i think that the american public would have called into question our efforts to react after 9/11 and all the GOOD work done to prevent terrorism since would have gone undone.
