I am thinking this jerking and bucking thing is caused by the MAF. I called Joe and they wanted $375 for it. I would definetely pay that if I was for sure that this is the problem.

There are probably about 20 of them on ebay right now for around $90. 10 of them just say Infiniti MAF, 5 others have a part number, are these the same for all Q45's? I am thinking I should just go with Joe but if this is not the problem then I am beat for 375. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get the part number for the ones youre looking at I can make sure theyll work on your car.

Have you checked the connector and the MAF pins? Can you wiggle the MAF connector more than about 10mm up and down? The pins and connector should be free of corrosion, the female pins in the connector may need to be closed a bit to ensure they fit tightly on the MAF pins, and both sets need to be coated with dielectric grease before reassembly. This is a simple DIY you can do to rule out a bad connection (very common) before you invest the money in another MAF. Give it a go and let us know.

Yeah baby!

Gotta pull the pin in and out to make sure it's a good fit and use good lubricant or grease or whatever on that. Yeah!

I've never heard of one failing on a 97-01, but I'm not a professional either.

I do not have the car with me at this moment. Just put new kyb's, eibach springs and tires on it and mechanic has the car till monday, but I will definetely jiggle it a bit and see what happens. My mechanic said he could get a rebuilt MAF for $300. Anyone have any experience with a rebuilt?

My car is coming along rather nice and the only thing holding it back is this jerking crap that is plaguing so many but no one has found a cure for.

Actually. most Y33 owners don't have the bucking problem that G50 MAFs produce. Y33s have a stumble or miss, at idle and going uphill under load in high gear. I vaguely recall one Y33 owner needing a new MAF. But according to posts by Q45tech, other manufacturers are experiencing MAF and other circuit board troubles over time.

"In many applications, especially automotive, solderinterconnects experience degradation due to prolongedtemperature and power cycling. This degradationbehavior manifests itself as changes in the grain/phasestructure, primarily through grain/phase coarsening.Because the magnitude of the change in grain/phasestructure is strongly dependent upon the environmentalstresses, quantifying microstructural changes providesan alternative approach to calculating an accelerationtransform number or function...................................."

Why MAF and FPCU internal SOLDER problems !

It may be that Y33s MAFs are just now starting to fail. I wouldn't bother with the rebuilt MAF - not enough savings. If you can find a cheap (under $75) MAF for a 97 Q45 on ebay, you might want to try that before springing for a spanking new one at $375.

Is your symptom a bucking/jerking bronco ride or is it an annoying miss at idle?

definetely a bucking/jerking. Symptoms occur really bad when AC is on, put it into neutral and it idles fine. Come to a stop at a light and you can feel the rpm's drop then come back up every 2 seconds and the car will shake.

I fear if I get one off ebay it might be in as bad or even worse shape than the one I have and I would rule out the MAF.
