My 1992 has 112K miles now and just got it's third starter. It's also had the ignition relay replaced at 89K. The problem is the car doesn't always start until I've turned the key a half dozen times. Sometimes it starts first try but sometimes I can't get it started at all. One time it started but wouldn't shut off, thats when I replaced the relay. The latest starter replacement was a waste of time and money as the car acted same today as it did before the new starter went in! Any ideas what to look into next?

Have you tested it with another ECU in the car? It could be that you have a short somewhere in the ECU and it's not transmitting the ingnition signal properly to the starter.

Have you checked the lower engine harness out? You might have a bad ground on that harness, thus getting very inconsistant results.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll have them checked out and let you know the results.
