Hello fellow Pathfinder owners,

I recently experienced a frustrating situation where my rear hatch window was smashed by vandals while I was away on vacation. In a rush to fix the issue, I purchased a used replacement window (only), only to find out that the third brake light attachment points on the replacement window is smaller than the original.

While waiting to source a new brake light, I've noticed that the third brake light (old one) doesn't come on anymore. I've checked all the connections, and everything seems to be in order. It's worth mentioning that the old third brake light was functioning both before and after the break-in incident. Note: all rear side brake lights work.

My question for the community is whether the rear hatch window also serves as a ground for the third brake light? Could replacing the window have disrupted the ground connection for the light, causing it to malfunction?

Any insights or advice on how to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

You can find the wiring diagram here on EL-83 and the back door harness layout on EL-386:

The high brake grounds both inside the truck and on the hatch, and it has three redundant ground paths. The door harness is also split into two parts. The numbers in the D100 series connect the Body Harness to the door, and they terminate just past the umbilical. There they connect to the D200~D300 subharness, which is all inside the hatch. In general, I'd say about 80% of all high brake issues on older vehicles happen inside the umbilical, from broken wires caused by the constant flexing of the conductors.
