Well, last friday my KA24DE decided that although it had been completely rebuilt from top to bottom, and upgraded with nice 9:1 pistons, cams, rods, etc, it was time for it to blow a damn rod through the side of the block. Needless to say I wasn't very happy.Well, my family didn't lose the chance to begin to criticize my driving style and my car choices. (Already gave me a hard time when I bought my old '89 coupe). So now I am looking for a KA to replace my defunt one. I am currently driving my brother's Civic but he is telling me that he wants his car back so I need to get mine on the road ASAP. I really didn't want to put a block that had close to 100K mi on it, but that is all I seem to find at a reasonable price around here.I was actually kinda hoping to wait a few weeks and just do the SR swap but eveyone is urging me to get back on the road.So the though of selling the S13 crossed my mind. I don't know if I should sell it with a blown motor and just get as much as I can, should I swap a KA and then sell it?I was thinking of trying to get a Q45 in nice shape. I've seen a few people around the board with theirs and they seem to be pretty happy with it. Also, I think that up to a certain extent my family is right when they say I need a more useful car.I need some help in making this decision. I will have to take it as soon as I can and I really want to make the right choice. I will surely miss the S13 but I don't see getting it back on the road to my liking a possibility. If I swap a normal KA now, I don't see myself touching the engine for another year or so and I was actually planning to go turbo by the end of the summer.Thoughts and advice are welcome. Can I also get some impressions by current Q owners? How much am I looking to shell out for one in reasonable shape? Reliability, etc?

If you any other suggestions for a nice replacement vehicle please do bring them forth. I really do enjoy driving in the mountains and I think it will be really hard to replace the S13. Also, my car is in the sig. How much do you guys think I can get for it with and without another engine?I can throw in the Z32 26mm calipers and SS brake lines as well.

OMG, its amazing how our situations are almost identical. Family is against the cars, taking any chance to think its a POS, taking advantage of its downtime (without even knowing exactly whats wrong with it), etc.

I'd say if you are going to sell it, put another KA thats in "decent" shape in it. Otherwise, people are gonna try and low-ball you left and right.

I thought about selling my car last summer, BUT I already had a backup car (my grandma let me drive when I totalled my civic and we still had it in our driveway). Its the same situation now though, Im currently daily driving this corsica and my 240sx is in almost perfect running shape but I cant afford to add the 240 right now to the insurance.

Do you have any money saved up? Of course that plays a big part in it too. The only other cars I would drive right now realistically speaking would be a 99-01 prelude or a WRX of any year....BUT when I think about it...between the maintenance and insurance, it'll be cheaper for right now to fix up my s13 and *almost* do everything I want to it, THEN when I get a full-time job, get whatever car I REALLY want.

s13s are nice cars though. parts are really cheap for it used. the motor almost has no value. 100k doesnt sound pretty but take it apart and rebuild it, it should be good.

q45s are nice they can be made into hot vip cars. any of the lexus ls looks hot too with wheels and some work. my biggest concern would be the bigger engine guzzling more gas.

What specifically does your family oppose about an S13?

The fact that it's an older car?The fact that it's a sports car?Unreliability?

Get a Starion Turbo. Why? I dunno, cause they're super cool.
