I was thinking of putting a side exhaust on my 240, just like some full race skylines. I was thinking of running it in front of the passenger rear tire ( kinda like the Ford Lighting trucks). I would be using a 40 series flowmaster ( yeah I know, but I like the sound) that would be taking the place of the cat, right under the passenger seat ( or at least that's what I think it is). I know I would have to get a 5 wire O2 sensor, so that it will be able to heat itself up, without the cat. Where I live, there are no emisions. But now I'm thinking that it will be a super loud cop magnet. What do you think?

Size of piping and use of a resonator will determine loudness. The fact that it will be a slightly shorter system than stock wont make it too much louder. Flowmasters seem to keep your system quiter than pretty much all straight through canister style mufflers. I cant tell you that it will be _____ loud. Its all a matter of opinion.

i was researching this alot before, and the only reason i declined on doing the side exit exhaust was because of the frame rail. I don't know if you have an s13 or an s14, but i know on the s13 the frame rail pretty much keeps you from exiting right before the rear tire. Maybe instead of exiting the side, dont cross the frame rail and just put a turn down in the middle of the car. its not uber-race skyline tight, but its a lot like a B-race pipe, and thats kinda uber tyte right? I'm just messin around, but i definately considered this as an option.

If you route the side pipe out behind the rear wheel i dont think you're going to get the look you want. If your car isnt lowered at all you might get away without ever crushing the pipe too bad. I've seen 240s with driver side exit pipes, so dont get me wrong it definately can be done, but you have to consider that frame rail.

I know someone will probably bring up square tubing, or oval tubing, and thats not a bad idea, considering the size of the piece you need to make the side pipe is only like two feet long with like one 45 degree bend

Now if you're talking about building a real side pipe, one big nasty one that goes along the entire side and only crosses the frame rail right by the drivers front wheel, then figure out how to route that exhaust and do it to it, cuz you'll be my hero

Jeez, I'm not making a Shelby 240 here. LOL. Well I guess there is not much of people telling me it's a bad idea. I just want to be unique, just like everyone else. If I do this I'll take some pics. I don't know cause I might be cutting into that frame rail. Thanks for pointing that out DJ. Anyone else wants to say anything about loudness? LMK. Thanks.

i don't know about cutting into that frame rail, maybe as an alternative you can use an alternative pipe routing. Maybe run it along the frame rail and then double back around the frame rail nearest the rear wheel so clearance wont be an issue because the exhaust crosses at a much higher point in the frame rail.

Also, since it is pretty much a pipe exiting right behind your head, it will be pretty loud. If you double back you still have to bust a quick left with the pipe. Thats about 270 degrees of extra bends, which kinda sucks hardcore for exhaust flow, but it would help quiet things down. I wouldn't even put the flowmaster in anywhere, and just try this ridiculous pipe. Or don't. i'm just throwing out my idea cuz i really wanted to do this but i've just neglected to

I've thought about doing the same thing just with the Blitz nur-Spec R Exhaust except have it exit in front of the drivers side rear wheel. I was thinking of just getting a Y pipe and run one end into the stock exhaust with a CATCO CAT, and the other into a 3" pipe w/o CAT into the Blitz exhaust with a powered actuator at the Y,. This way the Blitz exhaust is completely hidden behind the sideskirt at the rear wheel and the car looks like it has a stock exhaust. Just flip a switch and the actuator loses off the side of the Y that you don't want to run. I have emissions here in DE and I really don't want to have to keep putting the stock exhaust when it comes time for inspection. Since the Blitz exhaust is hidden behind the sideskirt with a convenient exhaust hole cover that will snap on I'll be able to have my cake and eat it too. Not to mention if I do get a cops attention then flip the switch and it goes back to stock silent.

I saw them do this on Trucks with a old chevy pickup they built so they could run with a muffler and with str8 pipes at the same time, it was da hawtness. Oh and I want it to be loud as hell I need the attention
