What can you tell me to look for that goes bad?

And where can i find aftermarket stuff for it? only things i can find are for the newer body style (05+) (Looking for exhaust, intake, suspension, etc)

i know i see people modding them in Japan but from what i understand in Japan it came with the 3.5L and not the 4.5L so what is availible to me.

Search the forum. this is a common topic. In short- not many mods. There have been custom cat backs done here. not many suspension options. not many intake options. Pretty limited here except custom work

Ahhh Man, maybe I am the only one in this forum who thinks the first generation M45 is Ugly, like a dead mans car.

I must be dead, then!

Seriously, I love the looks of the first-gen M45. Yes, it is not a soap-dish like most other cars on the market today - the design is definitely dated. But it is instantly recognizable as a unique vehicle on the road. Quite a head-turner look.

Newer designs tend to look too "similar" to me - even relatively close up. Which is not to say that I don't like them, but the older-gen M45 is a standout from far away!

Agreed. It does not have the same rounded everything, homologous, plastic and LED lights everywhere..

I often cannot even tell quickly if (when its approaching or from the side) it's a G or an M after the '04 models.

Plus....when you see ours, you know there's some engine in there and don't have to wonder or just happen to see the badge.

I do miss the ability for mods to the dual exhaust though...

Nice. Now that is the way to start off on a forum. Insulting all owners of the previous generation. Well played.

well,

this is a older thread.

but what the hell.

I looked at them a bit more and i like them found out the common problems (Oil consumption, trunk problem, and gas gauge)

I went and looked at one on saturday (03) 62k miles for 14k silver on black with the "light wood" interior. had the gas gauge done within the last 5k miles, the trunk problem was also "fixed" i looked at it i really like it the controls seem a little hard to figure out but i'm sure i could get used to it.

I drove the car and wow....i damn near fell in love.

next step go pick it up.

$14K is too much for one with 62K miles... As much as I hate to say it, a pristine example of an '03 should be no more than $12K. Sorry to everyone that might not agree, the bottom has dropped out of the market in the past year.

that's what there asking for the car, doesn't mean you can't haggle with them, the guy at the dealership even said it's been there for about 6 months.

Make sure the spare is there and good, the wheel lock is there and you get 2 keys plus the owner's manual... If it has NAV, also make sure the nav user manual is there.

Welcome to first generation love.

and then buy the extended warranty!

the keys and wheel lock key will cost some bucks to replace - so be sure you get both fobs/keys or have the dealer credit you with $200 more to get a 2nd one. These aren't something you can pick up at Ace Hardware.

Is this for sale at an Infiniti dealer? CONFIRM that the 60K services have been done too, as that's also $1,000 to complete.

And $12K sound like the MAX I'd pay...

Hello,

In regards to the price, is the M equipped with the Technology/Premium Package? This would include navigation, heated/cooled seats, Homelink, Intelligent Cruise Control, etc... If so equipped, I would think 14 is reasonable such that those packages cost around 6000 dollars when new. Very few 2003's were so equipped.ML

Yes it has all that.

and by wheel locks you mean the locks for the lugnuts? cause if thats the case the car has differant wheels on it (the stockers were stolen)

Whats included in the 60K mile maintenace (i'll most likely find it before someone posts back)

Not sure if this is a complete list, but it's a start:Trans flushcoolant flushoil/filterair filter - enginecabin particulate filterdrain/fill rear diff oil=================================recommend - PS drain/fill AND Brake fluid flush check the brakes - the rears typically wear out before the fronts, which are ceramic, rears are not.

You found a 2003 with NAV? That IS a find.

Yes, wheel lock on the lugs. If the stockers were stolen, that means there may be a blemish on the car fax too, look it up. Call an Infiniti dealership to speak with service and ask them to run the VIN as an inquiry on service performed. It will give data from any dealership that did work on it.

You may also find where if the stockers were really stolen, the key to remove them was also acessed by breaking a window. (I beleive a lock was standard equipment, right?) Look around the carpet in crevaces for bits of glass too.

As for the 60 K service, if you're handy at all, do the oil & ALL filters yourself, flush the radiator and just have the dealer do the transmission & diff work. You might also do the spark plugs. I now they're supposed to go longer but I had them done & they were rough looking after 60K.

Hello,Actually, looking at all 2003 listings near him, not a one is equipped with the Technology Package. Plenty with the Premium Package. None with Technology (Navigation, ICC).

Flicktitty, are you sure the one you are talking about has Nav? Easy to check out in pictures as the ones without it are missing the Map button. This is right below the Vehicle Information Screen. Again, when I looked 2 years ago, I could not even find a 2003 with the Technology Package.ML

i COULD be wrong,

but i thought the Tech. package had the Rear veiw mirror with the garage door thing and all the other buttons below it? And if they had the heated seats they had the nav? like i said i could be wrong, i'm kind of a Newb, and the guy who was selling the car didn't even go with me or show me much of the car.http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/...false

feel free to look at it. like i said i drove the car for about 10 min and i didn't have much free time to figure out that triicky *** screen.

Flick -- I have the heated/cooled seats, all them fancy lil' buttons on the mirror, etc. etc. -- but NO Nav-- the big screen in the dash makes people that ride in it THINK it has nav- but no.

Like most have said - I've never seen an '03 with Nav - I know they're out there; just never seen one. There were over 75 Y34's for sale in SoCal a few weeks ago -- you = Wisconsin? Time for a vacation. Fly out, buy a nice rust free car with low miles and ship it or drive it back. I saw one that had about 14K miles on it -- has to be the lowest mileage Y34 on the planet.

Hello,

I hope you are wrong as the Nav/ICC is pretty handy. If you can swing it, most 2004's seem fully loaded. Also, the location of the CD Changer is much better. For some reason, they do seem to fetch more money beyond being a year newer.

Either way, I hope you find one soon and get to enjoy on of the most underrated cars on the road. All for the price on a new Hyundai Accent!ML

i might have to look into that. i just like the price range the onne i was looking at is. but i will look around the country, i don't have a problem traveling to get it as long as it is up to par.

Would you or anyone else on here (if your local enough) be willing to look at one for me before i fly out there?

personally the nav/no nav. isn't a big deal to me. i have a Garmin navi and my girlfriend has some new $700 Garmin unit, so i don't need one. Thanks for all the help from all of you.

Do the 04's have the same problems as the 03's? or did they fix those for 04? (oil consumption, gas gauge)

03's and 04's were all subject to these issues (oil consum & faulty gauges). More 03's due to the fact that more 03's were produced in 2003. They only made 04's for half the year of 2004 and then cut the Y34 off from production. Over 9000 2003's vs 2000 04's I believe.
